Pet care experience
I was raised around dogs and have been responsible for caring for various animals, dogs, cats, and farm animals. I am comfortable and capable of administering oral medications, injections, and grooming upkeep. I can adapt to suit any pet needs whether it’s space, more attention and time, exercise, or reinforcing/training commands. I have trained dogs through their lifespan including housetraining, leash manners, tricks/recall, and help them gain their confidence! Most of my experience is with dogs <35lbs and livestock, however, I am comfortable taking care of a cat and briefly looked after one of my own. I am also comfortable looking after larger dogs, as well as high energy dogs who need more attention and stimulation. I consider myself well versed in reading an animals body language and how to respond appropriately to it. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me to see if I can meet you and your pets needs! Laurisa is a caring, knowledgeable and adaptable person who has an extensive knowledge applicable to animals of many breeds, but especially cats and dogs. I have a yard, however, it is not fenced and therefore any pets that need to be taken outside would be accompanied by myself and on a leash. I live in a quiet neighborhood with low traffic so that adds another level of safety. If I am watching your pet for the day/night I will ensure they are well kempt and do not go home dirtier than they’ve arrived, that they have access to their litter box/outside/puppy pad at the frequency they need, and are fed at the intervals you express. The pets will be allowed through all of the house except the bedrooms as I find the first few visits may be overstimulating and can cause an animal to hide under a bed or even mark some territory, so it’s easiest if they only have access to well visualized areas. However, if your pet is a repeat visitor and becomes more comfortable, they can certainly have access to the bedroom to sleep if you are comfortable with that. I have 2 roommates (my fiancé and sister) but we are all experienced with animal care, quiet and laid back so your pet will have a stress free experience. I am content to adapt to your pets needs so whether it’s snuggles, quiet space, or frequent periods of play time, I am happy to comply! Please let me know if your pet has any special needs that I will have to accommodate, and any behaviours I should be aware of, especially if it pertains to other animals so that I can make sure they are the only pet in the house. I have experience working with blind, deaf, anxious/timid dogs, and am comfortable with dogs who don’t enjoy the company of other animals or who need muzzled etc for walks/outings. Please also let me know if they are fixed, and if your female is not, if she will be coming into heat soon. Also, it’s okay if your pet maybe has a weak/anxious bladder. I will accommodate that to the best of my ability but I need to be informed about it first! ☺️ Also, if your pet has a strong dislike of men I may not be able to accommodate as my fiancé lives with me and is present most of the time. If they are anxious/wary of men and need space he can accommodate that but unpredictable aggression towards him is harder to accommodate.
A typical day
We can play stimulating games if your pet enjoys that, we can go for walks and explore as well! If your pet enjoys hikes I do frequently hike Keppoch, and if you are comfortable with them utilizing the dog park I can take them there as well! I can keep them refreshed on any commands they know and help teach them new ones if you request. I will help keep them clean and comfortable, and can also integrate small periods of grooming if your pet maybe needs more exposure to gain confidence and tolerance in that area. I am comfortable bathing your pet if you request, or if they get into a situation while in my care that warrants it (I.e., are particularly dirty bathroom break, walk, or playtime).

Availability
I am a full time nursing student at StFX, so my availability to pet sit during the day/overnight is limited, however, I live in a house with my fiancé and my sister so there is almost always somebody at home if I am gone for an hour or 2. They both have been raised around animals as well and have the same extensive knowledge and experience. I am an active person so dog walking would be something that easily fits into my daily schedule. While I am busy through the week at school, Wednesday, Saturday & Sunday I am mostly/totally free to spend time with your pet!
