Home away from home

Pet care experience

I have had dogs my entire life. Small (toy) breeds to large breed hunting dogs and everything in between. My 16.5 year old son lives with me half time and is happy to help play with and care for your fur baby. I currently work part time. When I am away from home, dogs will be crated for safety. I prefer to crate dogs overnight as well. My own dogs are also crated. Please provide your own kennel. Depending on size of your fur baby, I may have an extra that could be used, but I find they do better in their own kennel. Normal routine includes feeding, playtime (indoors and out), potty breaks, walks, cuddles, and healthy treats. I have a large fenced in dog run for off leash exercise, sun bathing, and potty time. We enjoy walks around the neighborhood. On hot summer days, the dogs have their own pool to splash in. My home comes with two host dogs. Ava and Harper. Both are rescued mixed breeds. Ava is a Pit/Boxer mix and tops the scales at 45lbs. Harper is a multi-mix breed and tops the scales at 40lbs. Both are spayed. Household members: Laurie (myself) and Henry (16 year old son) and our dogs Ava & Harper. My partner John and his dog Gibson are frequent visitors. Starting September 2021, we will have two additional teenagers living with us. Both are 15 and are exchange students for the school year.

I am hesitant to leave this review because I don't have a good sense of how it really went. I can only speak of what my experience was. I was a first time Rover app client and I didn't know how the app worked. I did look for sitters in my area but didn't get see that Laurie had 3 other dogs. I wrote in my dogs profile that he didn't do well with other dogs and/or small children. After booking, I learn she has 3 dogs (not Laurie's fault - I didn't see it on her profile). Extremely concerned, I tried to connect with Laurie to have an intro of the dogs, before she took in mine. Although I was asking two days in advance, she couldn't make that work in her schedule. So, obviously, I felt nervous going in to this and remained that way even after leaving my dog. The drop off didn't go well (& she only brought out 1 dog) and I was worried and uncomfortable, within a couple of hours I was checking my phone for updates. The updates wouldn't come from the text but the app. I wasn't aware of that. Later, she finally got word to me that he was fine and she was keeping him separated from the other dogs. Updates didn't come that freqeuntly and we had another snafu one day, of her pictures and post not getting uploaded to the sight while she was out. I received nothing that day. So, overall, I didn't feel the communication was as consistent as it should be. Assessing the situation from my perspective, I feel the timing wasn't all that great for Laurie to take in my dog, it sounded like she had a lot of things going on, with guests over, work and outings, etc. I feel my dog may have spent much more of time in the crate that I would have liked him to. I know for several days she had to keep him separate from the others. I appreciate her trying to keep his anxiety down. She did tell me that as the time went on, he made stride with the other dogs and the last day he even was able to interact with them a bit. That was great news. Did she care for my dog, absolutely. Is she knowledgeable about dogs, I'd say absolutely. Nice person, yes and has a great sense of humor. Did my dog enjoy his stay, I don't really think so, but that could be my dog?

Wonderful care and attention! The messages and photos sent to me from Laurie were written from my dog's point of view. It was adorable! Will definitely rebook when the time comes.

Laurie did an excellent job with our nervous young dog. She went out of her way to make appropriate accommodations for him so he stayed calm, safe and comfortable. We got daily pictures and updates, which really set us at ease so we could fully enjoy our vacation. I will absolutely book with her again.

Laurie was great to work--responsive, thoughtful, flexible. She scheduled a meet and greet before our dog's stay, which helped him feel comfortable with her dogs and in her home. We loved the regular (and fun) updates and photos that she shared with us during the week she cared for our puggle! We'll be a repeat customer--thanks, Laurie!
