Availability
I work full-time M-F but fully remotely as an editor. Housesitting: If I were to housesit for you, I would need an internet connection (I have my own work computer). My schedule is fairly flexible, so I would be able to take periodic breaks to walk, play with, and feed your pets as needed. I do have two cats of my own, so I would be leaving your residence at least once a day to take care of my own lovelies, but I would be spending the night at your house.

Safety, trust & environment
I care for your pets at their house, where they are most comfortable. I do not offer boarding services at my own house. I can housesit (overnight) or drop in. If you have dogs (or leash-trained cats!) who need to be walked, rest assured that I'll give them plenty of exercise. I'm happy to take dogs on walks of up to 2 miles at a time, depending on what level of activity they are used to. If you have a mobility-impaired animal who goes out in a stroller, we can do that. Cats will get plenty of play time with their favorite toys.
Information Lauri H. would like to know about your pet
The more information the better. Let me know what soothes your dog and what startles it. If we need to avoid interacting with other dogs on walks, that's naturally important to know. Allergies, reactivity, fears -- I can deal with them all, but only if I know what I need to know!
A typical day
If your pup has a favorite routine, we'll be sure to incorporate it. Tug time with a favorite toy, a little bit of positive reinforcement with treats, or just some snuggles.

Care and Kindness
Pet care experience
I've lived with animals since the day I was born. My first pet was really my father's dog--a long-haired dachshund named Heidi. Our animal-loving mother allowed us to have cats, dogs, birds, hamsters, fish, snakes--you name it! Years ago I worked at a veterinarian's office in Manhattan. Over the years I have cared for animals at every stage of life, from puppy (or kitten) to senior. I have taken behavioral and obedience lessons with my own dogs, and I am comfortable walking dogs and even leash-trained cats. I can administer medication to animals as needed.

Reviews

Love when Lauri can stay with our dog! She’s great at communicating and we feel like he is in excellent hands!

Lauri took great care of our two dogs at our home while we were out of town for a couple of days. She provided updates and photos twice a day and was great about administering medication to one of them. Everybody was happy, and I had peace of mind. I highly recommend her!

Lauri was fantastic! She was communicative—providing both thorough updates and photos—and we came home to a happy dog. Really appreciate the peace of mind she provided.

Lauri is so dependable and my dog likes when she comes!
