My family home has never been without a dog. As a matter of fact, my childhood neighborhood was a family affair with our dog's grandmother, mother, brother, and sister all living within walking distance of our house. We shared pet care duties when families went out of town and often picked up friends' dogs for weekend adventures, like long hikes or a lake swimming rendezvous. Therefore, I would say that boarding and petsitting were my first real form of employment! As a teenager, my family also served as a foster home for our local Humane Society, caring for young or temporarily displaced animals while they awaited adoption into their forever family. In the past year, we lost our English yellow lab, Lily, to brain tumor complications. We are saddened by her absence but it has left our home with a space big enough to welcome another furry family member, even if for a short amount of time.
