WFH Pet Expert w/ Vet Experience!!

Pet care experience

Hello to you & your pet! My name is Lauren and I have been working with animals for 15 years. During college, I worked for years at a dog daycare and am very experienced with handling all breeds, personality types, and situations that may arise for your pet! I have a Bachelors of Science in Zoology with a focus in animal behavior and husbandry. That basically means, I will be able to tell if your dog is comfortable, happy, and do my best to meet those needs fully! I also am apt at coming up with ways to enrich your pets stay/day with fun puzzle games, activities, playtimes, etc. and ways to keep their minds and bodies engaged while in my care! I worked as a Veterinary Assistant at a hospital for nearly 7 years in animal care and medicine. I understand and am trained to care for any special needs your pet may have including giving oral or subcutaneous medications. If some sort of sickness would occur under my care, I am prepared to handle the situation calmly and professionally and promise to fully and honestly communicate with you about your pet and make a care plan together. I am Fear Free Animal Handling Certified to Level 3/3. This means I can understand your pets subtle communications and make sure that they are feeling as happy and safe as possible while in my care. And I know how to adjust to get them there. I love to see animals happy and was always eager to learn more ways to achieve that! Some other fun animal facts to get to know me…I have worked in and with many types of animals in all sorts of situations. I have worked as a rehabilitater, volunteered at animal sanctuaries & shelters, and worked at a zoo. I think I have loved every animal I have ever met. I’ve been an animal lover since I was a kid and each day I think that grows. I have over 15 years of pet sitting experience, which I will apply to make the best experience for your pet! I have cared for pets going through chemo, kidney disease, with special dietary needs and or restrictions, diabetes, etc. And of course tons of healthy pet friends, too! Now, I work from home full time and really missed my daily dose of lots of animal friends! I am so excited to have yours share the fun and space with myself and my pup Chopstick. He loves other dogs and can’t wait to meet your pup too! Any other questions?? Please reach out! I want both you and your pet to feel happy & at ease with me! I work fully remotely, so I’m here all day! I can take your pup out as often as they need and we will go for three walks minimum daily, two short around the block walks, and one long walk. (This excludes quick trips out to potty) If your pet is staying with us on a weekend, with your permission, they will accompany us on nature adventures (Prospect Park, the beach, salt marsh, dog parks). We will discuss your comfortability with the different scenarios before your first stay! Meals are traditionally fed twice a day for Chopstick, but if your pet needs something different, let me know! Treats are a multiple a day thing here! If that doesn’t work for your pet’s diet, bring some of their kibble along! It’s a great way for them to get a low calorie reward :) I will care for your pet with the same love and respect I care for my own. You will receive picture and video updates each time your pet stays or plays with us! It is vital that your dog and Chopstick are friends. A first introduction is required before accepted for a full day or daycare or boarding. We have a fenced in patio with room for the dogs to play outdoors under supervision whenever weather allows. Other wise we will have in home playtime and cozy zones set up throughout the house for your pet to enjoy. Does your pet need their crate or bed to come along? Bring it! A favorite toy they can’t leave without? Throw it in the bag! We want this to be a second home for them, when their best home/friend needs to take care of other business. My partner Karl will also be here to help take care of your pet and give them lots of love and attention. If your pet is nervous about men, please include that in your inquiry so we can make sure Karl is around to meet and give treats to your pet with you there! We do live in a multi level apartment and walk up. Climbing stairs is required to get to our home. If your pet has joint or motility issues, please include that in your inquiry. I am able to safely carry pets 40lbs or under up our stairs in special conditions, if need be/your pet will allow it. We are so excited to meet you & your pet! Let the fun & playtimes begin!!

Lauren, Karl, & Chopstick are an absolute dream team, and made my dog feel safe and at home from the start. Lauren and Karl are communicative and clearly at east with all kinds of pups, and Chopstick is such a sweetheart. My pup has always had a hard time relaxing and feeling safe when I'm out of town, but his stay with them was a real gamechanger, and they got to see a playful side of him that usually takes days and days to emerge. I'd recommend them to anyone, and will definitely be trusting Laszlo with them again!

Our pup was in the best hands with Lauren and Karl! From the first communication with them to the last, Lauren and Karl were responsive, kind, communicative and understanding. Drop off and pickup were a breeze, and our dog came home happy and tired :) Our pup needs special medications and we felt fully relaxed knowing Lauren was administering them with care, and the daily updates about his mood and behavior helped put us at total ease and really enjoy our time away without worrying at all. We can’t wait to use Lauren and Karl again, and our pup can’t wait to stay with them again!

Lauren and Karl are AMAZING! While we were out of town for the weekend they made us feel so at ease about leaving our high energy 2 year old pup, Joey. They constantly kept us updated about Joey (what she ate, how much she played, potty schedule) and sent along adorable pictures. And when our flight got canceled, they were more than happy to keep Joey an extra night! I never look forward to leaving my pup for vacation, but I know Joey can’t wait to go back and spend more time with them??☺️ We can’t recommend them enough!!

Information Lauren & Karl F. would like to know about your pet

Here’s what I need to know for the stay: -How is your dog with other dogs? Dogs of all sizes? -Has your dog ever bitten anyone? A human? An animal? Please explain. This is a cage free environment and very important to be honest for safety. -Vaccine proof: Rabies, Distemper, Lepto, Flu, and Bordatella are required to stay. A negative fecal test is also required (<6mo preference) -Any illnesses, medications, or special needs your dog has. -Preferred vet for emergencies and your best emergency contact number -Food allergies! Anything that your dog is allergic to or you know upsets their stomach? -Can your dog have treats? People food? -What makes your dog happiest? Cuddles, play time, toys, walks, swimming. treats? -Anything they are afraid of / do not like? (Storms, feet touched, ears touched, cats, etc) What helps? -Type of food and frequency/amount of feedings. Anything I can add to the food if your pet is feeling a little picky today? (Chicken broth, cheese, etc) -Where does your dog like to sleep? -Any unique personality traits of your pet ☺️ -How do you feel about your dog joining nature adventures with us? Does your dog like water? (Involves dog being in car and having long leash walks/hikes) -How do you feel about us going to the dog park? (This involves being in the car and being off leash in a fenced in area with other dogs, not just my own, at the park) -Anything else you would like to share!!

A typical day

Good morning! We start off the day with a short walk and then have breakfast! Then a short play on the patio (weather permitting) before I have to clock in for work. Then the pups will play inside, in the same room I work. Usually Chopstick likes to nap during this time. Your pet is allowed on furniture in our home (if that’s not your thing, just let me know) so they will have access to the bed, couch, chairs, floor pillows, and dog beds around. There are also plenty of stuffed toys, rope toys, and chew toys around to keep your friend busy, too! Then on my lunch break we will take a nice long walk in the sun and come home for snack time! Usually pups will have a treat or 3 and practice some tricks, play a game, or have a cookie party (I toss a handful treats around for them to go search out). Then pups are back to playtime together or a cuddly nap, whatever they want. Sometimes we will have a Scooby Doo marathon or nature documentary viewing! Around 4pm is always play time, we might tug a rope, or play fetch/catch. Dinner is served sharply at 6pm, as Chopstick always remembers to remind me. If your pets schedule is different, let me know! Then we are off for either a long walk or a nature adventure. Treat upon arrival home. Tired from such a fun day, your pet is welcome to sleep in bed with us, on the dog bed or carpet upstairs, or on the couch/furniture downstairs if they prefer a little privacy. If your dog prefers a crate, we will happily set that up in our space for them. Throughout the day you will receive pictures and updates about your pet. If you are feeling sad to be without your best friend, let me know and I can up the pictures so you can check in more. Or is one check in a day enough? Let me know that too! During the day this will be a dog daycare environment. For now, no more that 4 dogs will be in our home at one time. All dogs will be introduced to Chopstick as a trial before allowed to stay. If you are uncomfortable with your dog playing with other dogs during the day, please let me know. We won’t be the right home for you!
