Life time animal lover of all kinds

Pet care experience

Although I'm new to Rover, I have been approached to house sit and pet sit since the early 1980’s when I didn’t even know people did such things! My animal friends have included lizards, cats, an older Chihuahua named Spike who loved to run away with his mini carrots, a French Poodle named Maggie who knew when we were going the wrong way home and let me know. One of my best dog friends Was a pit-mix who slept in bed with me on his own pillow while mom was gone for a week once a year. Then, of course, there was my own one-eyed and deaf pup who needed daily medication. His name was Feather, a Tibetian Spaniel with a sweet disposition who was found running down the middle of the road where cars passed by him at 50 miles an hour! I miss my little Roo, which is why I’ve signed up for Rover. When I can give another animal the care and love they deserve my heart is given a gift, I feel incredibly privileged when I am accepted and loved by any animal. I learn from them every time I meet one.

Laura is the most responsible and loving dog caregiver I have ever known for one reason; she is able to connect with dogs instantly and establish trust. Golda was a very high-strung, untrusting cocker spaniel/golden retriever when we adopted her. We found her on the street, emaciated, with a rope around her neck. We suspect that she had escaped her environment. Once she got used to us, she was still untrusting of everyone else. She would bark at every person she encountered. She even bit a few people. It was very difficult for us to take her to a groomer or veterinarian as she would act aggressively to any and all who approached. And forget about us going out of town without taking Golda. But a friend of mine told me about Laura and said she had a "special way" with dogs. So, we gave her a call. Laura came over to our apartment and when she walked in to our home it was the first time that Golda did not bark or aggressively charge at a stranger. Golda was curious, of course, and approached cautiously. Laura greeted Golda and allowed her to conduct an inspection. When finished, Laura put out her hand. At that point they were best of friends. Laura then sat down with us, including Golda, and just visited. Laura pet her, talked to her, and celebrated her presence. She ended up dog sitting while we went out of town for the weekend. All went well. Golda had not "punished" us for leaving by going potty in the apartment. We went out of town about a month later and Laura dog sat again. When she entered our apartment, Golda was very happy to see her. Laura ended up dog-sitting for us four or five times before Golda passed away. Laura is now a good friend of ours and is very close to our two geriatric Dachshunds, Cody and Sophie. She has a special connection with them just as she did with Golda, even though she lives in another state and sees them less only a few times a year. I HIGHLY recommend Laura to provide care to your or anyone's dog. She truly has a special gift with dogs.
