Your Local Cat Expert

Pet care experience

With 25+ years of cat care experience, I'm knowledgeable about a wide range of cat issues and bring this depth of knowledge to all my cat interactions. I'm an animal advocate who cares deeply about ensuring animals get the best care possible. What does this mean for you? I will be extremely attentive to your cat's unique needs and preferences. • I have a Master of Social Work degree with a focus on human-animal relationships. • I spend a minimum of 40 minutes with your cat(s) at each "30-min" visit. • I bring in mail, water plants, and adjust shades & lights upon request. • I don't accept tips – you'll know upfront how much you'll be paying when you book with me. Experience My cat experience began with caring for my own cats as well as cats of friends, family, and neighbors. Through my volunteer work, I developed a special interest in cats who need extra care, including cats who have experienced trauma and senior cats with health challenges. I’ve cared for cats at The Humane Society of Greater Akron (Ohio) and the Fort Collins Cat Rescue & Spay/Neuter Clinic (Colorado). I also have experience doing community cat care (Trap-Neuter-Return) with Northern Colorado Friends of Ferals. From 2017–2018, I worked for the largest companion animal welfare organization in Asia—Soi Dog Foundation—located in Thailand. While there, I regularly spent time with cats receiving treatment in the on-site cat hospital. That’s where I met my current cat, who is totally blind. In 2019, I began offering professional cat sitting services in California. Now I’m excited to provide cat sitting services in the Seacoast, having moved here in early 2023 to be near family. Education My interest in animal welfare prompted me to pursue and earn a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Denver in 2014. I tailored my coursework to focus on intersections of human and animal welfare. I love learning and I’m committed to ongoing cat education. I've attended Colorado State University's Cat Care Conference and completed the University of Edinburgh’s Animal Behavior and Welfare course. In June 2023, I received training and was certified in Cat First Aid & CPCR from the Pet Safety Crusader. Strengths I bring to cat caretaking include: • Familiarity with common temperament and behavioral issues related to stress, including change in routine (e.g., family being away from home), fearfulness, and shyness. • Comfort administering medication. In addition to oral medicine (pills and liquids), I have experience giving subcutaneous fluids, as well as insulin and anti-seizure injections. • Comfort with special needs. I’ve cared for cats with anxiety, arthritis, cancer, chronic upper respiratory infections, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, gastrointestinal issues, and kidney failure. I've also cared for three-legged cats, cats with ataxia, and cats that are blind. • Attention to detail. I will notify you of any behavioral changes in your cat(s). I will follow your instructions carefully, and you will receive detailed updates and clear photos at each visit. It's important to me that you feel totally at ease while you're away. • Cleanliness. I will keep your cat’s living spaces as clean as possible. This includes regularly washing food and water bowls, sweeping up litter, and putting away wand and/or string toys after playtime.

Best Rover sitter ever, asked questions took detailed notes and stayed longer than needed. She prioritized my cats health and comfort and I felt 100% secure in Laura’s care.

Laura is very responsible and very kind. She understood our kitty's shyness and diligently worked to build a relationship with her until our kitty welcomed her with chirps and purrs at each visit. Laura wrote great notes and I eagerly looked forward to reading about each visit. She also took good care of my home, and I felt safe and secure with her there. I highly recommend you consider Laura for your next pet sitting needs.

We recently had the pleasure of having Laura as our cat-sitter for our two cats, and it was an incredible experience. Laura was punctual, detail-oriented, and incredibly caring. She made sure to spend plenty of quality time with our cats, providing them with lots of playtime and cuddles. She also had a great sense of humor that made her visit notes and messages fun to read. What impressed us the most, though, was how communicative she was with us. She would send us daily updates and funny anecdotes about our cats, which made us feel much more at ease about leaving them at home. After each visit, she would leave us a detailed write-up about how our cats were doing including dozens of great pictures capturing her visit. We are so thankful to have had Laura as our cat-sitter. She truly went above and beyond to make sure our cats were well taken care of, and she made us not feel stressed about leaving our pets at home. We would highly recommend Laura to any pet owner looking for a reliable, caring, and communicative cat-sitter!

I’m fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and happy to wear a KF94 or KN95 mask to our meet and greet, if requested. Please let me know if you’d like me to wear a mask inside your home during my cat sitting visits or if you have any other requests related to Covid-19 precautions. Efforts to Support Cat Welfare I'm committed to reducing animal suffering around the world. I donate $1 from every cat sitting visit to a nonprofit in Asia working to spay/neuter and provide medical treatment to cats in need. For example, a 10-day booking with two visits/day would result in a $20 donation. The nonprofits I support are Animal Rescue Cambodia in Phnom Penh, Cambodia and PAWS Bangkok in Bangkok, Thailand. I've visited both organizations and believe they're doing excellent work!

Information Laura P. would like to know about your pet

You know your cat(s) best. I trust you to share with me anything I might need to know to give them the best care possible while you’re away. At our meet and greet, I will make sure that I have your veterinarian's contact information and know where your cat carrier is located. I'll also ask you questions about your cat's routines, including food, water, litter box, and playtime.

A typical day

Going away and leaving your cat(s) at home can be hard. My goal is to make your cats feel as comfortable as possible while you’re away.

Availability

Details and FAQs As of July 2023, I'm working full-time at a local nonprofit. That said, I have flexibility in schedule and can often work from home, allowing me to visit your cat(s) during the day. In general, I’m available between 8 am and 8 pm. If your cat has a routine or special needs that require a visit outside of these hours, please let me know. I try to accommodate these requests whenever possible. I'm looking to care for your cat(s) when you'll be out of town from 1–21 days. I recommend having someone stay overnight with your cat(s) if you'll be away for longer than three weeks.
