I absolutely hate giving poor reviews but I’m hoping this will save others from the heartache and panic I endured. I will say that prior to leaving for my vacation, Laura was responsive and came to my home to meet my dogs and agreed to care for them. The entire pre- experience was perfect and I felt very comfortable. I had booked her to stay in my home for 4 days but since she lived close, I gave her the choice to just come by for drop in visits with fool proof care instructions. From there it all went downhill. I left the morning of my vacation at 6am and let Laura know I would fed my girls and let them out prior to leaving, so should would not need to come to the house until 12-1 as stated in care instructions. I messaged her at 2 since no one had come by and she explained she was caught at work and would be there in 20 min. 30 min later, still no one showed up. I messaged asking if I needed to find other care/ let me know if she could not accommodate my dogs needs anymore and she assured me she would be there. At 3:45,two people showed up at my home, not Laura, to let my dogs out. I’m assuming friends of hers as she was caught up at work which I didn’t love strangers coming to my house, but I was relieved that my dogs were at least let out. I would have appreciated straightforward communication about the situation, whatever was going on. Later, Laura showed back up at my house at 7 to feed my dogs. I thought, okay great we are back on schedule…wrong. My dogs were left alone for 14 hours overnight until I could get another person to save me. She did not show up for 9-9:30pm of letting my dogs out and didn’t show up to feed them or let them out at 8-8:30am. She only ever texted me back after I told her to not show up at my house anymore as I had to find someone else due to her neglect. She explained that she had an emergency which, I could understand that things happen, but it was weird to me that the first day she had other people caring for my dogs and then an emergency happened overnight as well. A lot of “emergencies” happened in such a short amount of time. And regardless of the situation, I should have been informed on what was happening and that she could not care for my dogs. I should have been told friends were coming to my house instead of her, that she was running late, that she had a family emergency. None of this was communicated with me until after the fact which I find very unprofessional. Throughout the experience I tried to be positive and understanding. Life happens and things come up, but not at the expense of my fur babies. Leaving them uncared for for 14 hours was the last straw. If I hadn’t reached out, I don't even know if I would have gotten texts back. It was my first time using Rover and it traumatized me. This review is a long winded way of saying, please by extra thorough when booking. I read so many great reviews about Laura and everything was fine up til I left for vacation, but I cannot imagine conducting myself in that matter and caring for someone else’s pets with zero communication. Horrible experience and I felt so helpless in the situation.
