My friends are constantly calling me snow white because at least once a month I am cat sitting, dog sitting, and/or house sitting (often all 3 at the same time). I honestly feel silly that I was in New York when someone finally told me about dog vacay, I could not believe I have not been using it for years! I watch a number of family homes and pets around the SF Bay Area (South Bay up to Marin county). I understand a pet’s familiarity with his or her neighborhood is key in making them comfortable when their owner is away. That said, I’m also open to bringing them to my home, given the right circumstances. My mother has worked for a Santa Clara area vet clinic my whole life. I used to go to work with her as a kid and loved learning about the animals that were there. I have raised large breed dogs since I was a kid. My first pup Sophie was a doberman, then I had Bella & Maddy (both Rottweilers). I have sat for a families with breeds such as american bulldog, dachshund, maltese, and many adorable rescues who had finally landed in their forever homes. I am very comfortable with large breed dogs, however I have enough experience to know when they are uncomfortable with me (or someone passing by). You have to be affectionate with animals but also smart. Same goes for smaller breeds, and I have always been very good with them. I also cat sit often for friends in Marin and San Jose. As a previous cat owner myself, I know that cats are much more independent and can often be left alone. However I greatly appreciate owners that would prefer someone be home with them, in their absence. Have yet to meet a cat that didn’t end up curled in my lap once getting to know each other. Also to note, as a Bay Area local, born and raised, I’m extremely familiar with South Bay, San Francisco and Marin county. I often enjoy driving long distances and have no issue commuting to the city for my work. And given the right situation and pet(s), I am encouraged to bring dogs to my office.
