I grew up with a small dog, so I am very familiar with caring for and living with dogs. I have occasionally pet sat for family and friends. I adjust my dog-sitting routine to the one that the dog has with their owner, but it generally involves playing with or petting the dog, feeding them and walking them. My communication style with owners is direct, open and positive; my communication style with dogs is calm and reassuring. The dog I have looked after most regularly is my cousin's 70+ pound german shepherd mix. Bao (the dog) is playful and friendly, but also has several quirks, including agoraphobia, and often needs to be coaxed out of the house, and calmed down to prevent her from sprinting home. I quickly learned her preferences, and how to help her enjoy her time outside the house.
