Pet care experience
Meeting new furred, feathered & finned friends is my absolute favorite! I have a lifetime of experience with every sort of pet and adore them all. I grew up on a small farm, volunteered at a vet clinic in high school and studied Animal Science in college. I have cared for birds, fish, reptiles, chickens, rats, rabbits, cats & dogs, as well as working as a horse trainer and riding instructor. I am an advocate of positive reinforcement training, have a popular blog on the topic and taught one of my dogs over fifty tricks! I helped found a dog rescue in 2016, including large scale transports, home checks and fostering. I am well versed in dog body language and have a soft spot for herding breeds, terriers, small and senior dogs. I have had kitties most of my life but am without one now so it’s a real treat to spend quality time with them. I currently have two incredible rescue dogs and four peaceful aquariums. Animals come first in my book and I am passionate about earning those purrs and tail wags.

Lara went above and beyond while looking after our two kitties. We appreciated her communication, and her compassion and care towards animals was very apparent. We’d absolutely have her look after our cats again!
I am so glad we found Lara to take care of our cats! She is great with them and I can tell they enjoyed their time with her. She made sure they had all their standard care, but also went above and beyond giving them lots of attention and play time. We loved receiving the pictures she took and the updates she gave. The hardest part of being away is leaving them, and it was so great to have peace of mind that they were in good hands. Would definitely recommend Lara! We will reach out to her in the future any time we will be gone!
Lara was amazing with our 2 cats! We got tons of pictures and videos, and she took the time to play with them everyday. Highly recommend Lara for your furry friends!

My time with your pet can be tailored to their energy level, whether that’s a ground-covering urban hike or a snow day snuggle session. I know how nerve-wracking it can be to entrust your precious family member to someone new and I take my commitment to them seriously. I’m a stickler for safety, ensuring secure fit of equipment, cautious handling of doorways/gates/barriers and close monitoring of comfort levels in hot and cold weather. I prefer to walk dogs in harnesses if available and will not use retractable leashes. Maintaining distance from other dogs & people on walks is my default due to having my own leash-reactive pup. I believe in allowing dogs to sniff and explore their environment - it’s their walk, after all! I appreciate animals foremost as individuals and my interactions are adaptable and intuitive. Your best friend will be treated with warmth & affection and your home with respect. I carry pet care insurance for additional peace of mind, am dependable and detail-oriented and will follow your instructions to the letter. Since I love capturing those adorable doggie smiles and kitty antics, expect plenty of cute photos throughout the visit!

Meet & Greets are required for dogs & optional for cats, but always encouraged to make sure it’s a good fit for everyone! Let me know what your pet particularly enjoys: the magic skritch spot, the special toy, the favorite treat. Just as important to know are any quirks, sensitivities or fears, and where any shy pets like to hide. I’m a “Snack Leader” and like to have healthy treats on hand for both cats and dogs, so please let me know about any allergies/preferences or if they are off limits entirely.
A typical day
Your pet’s comfort and joy are of utmost importance while you’re away. I enjoy getting to know each animal and having them teach me their own walk & play style. If your dog needs some mental exercise as well, I have a knack for trick training using clicker training/positive reinforcement. I keep some fun cat toys in my toolbox for kitty enrichment activities.

Availability
I am primarily available for evening, weekend and lunch hour visits/walks. I work remotely regular business hours but have Mondays and Fridays off frequently. Last minute bookings are possible depending on my schedule. Let me know your specific needs and I’ll do my best to accommodate!
