A Pawsitivley Barking K9 Haven

Pet care experience

Hi! My name is Lara, I have been working with and training dogs since I was a tot. I have several awards and many grand champion showmanship/obedience trophies and ribbons. I used to breed and show standard Aussies professionally. Growing up on a farm our dogs have always been working partners as well as family pets. My husband is a practicing physician here on Oahu, I work from home while homeschooling our 7 and 2 year old sons. Currently we have a Border Collie and a Sheltie, both friendly, well trained and fully vaccinated and regularly flea and tick treated. We have a large fenced yard for your special fur baby to play and exercise. When meeting a new dog I always start with my dogs kenneled until your dog has had a chance to look around and settle before being introduced to new friends. I will send picture updates regularly throughout the entire visit. My sons love playing and snuggling with the visiting pups, they very familiar with dogs (large and small, rowdy and calm) as well as goats, sheep, chickens and other critters. If this sounds like a good fit for you and your pet please give us a ring, we’re looking forward to meeting you and your precious pup. I work from home, thus I am available most any time. I have several regular furry guests: their visits vary from daily to weekly to monthly and so on. I can accommodate most schedules. Let me know what you are looking for and I’m confident we can sort out the details to suit your specific needs. I have a large fenced yard with plenty of room for play, runs, potty breaks and fetching games. Most vistors settle into thwirbown rhythm, some prefer mostly outside, some prefer mostly inside and others want to be exactly where the family happens to be, we accommodate and adjust to each preference as needed. My regular pack prefers to come inside and nap during the middle portion of the day after a rowdy morning outside. My husband loves dogs as much if not more than I do. I usually train our dogs in all basic obedience and he trains all the tricks. We all come from a ranch/farm background. We have participated in 4-H all our lives and have ample generational dog and other animal love and experience.

Lara took care of both my large dogs better than if they were her own dogs! I received daily updates and they had so much fun! They both came back happy , healthy and exhausted. I highly recommend:)

Lara and her family were wonderful with Indy. She was a great communicator, quick to respond, and kept us updated with pictures. Indy had a blast and was well cared for. It can be very hard to find dog care on island so it’s nice to have someone we can trust and count on.

Lara was AMAZING!!! I am so thankful that she took such good care of my Beau. I received updates and pictures daily. She went above and in beyond in celebrating my old guy’s 10th birthday while in her care. I would definitely book again ❤️❤️❤️.

I require all furry guests to have current flea and tick treatments and to be in general good health. My dogs receive flea and tick treatment every month. I keep frontline flea and tick treatment on hand at all times. If I notice your pet itching or scratching, or see any sign of fleas or ticks on your pet, I will apply frontline during their stay and apply a $25 fee. It is exceedingly important that I keep my home and my pets clean and protected. My back yard is up against the jungle and we have plenty of bugs. If your dog is coming from a more city area you should plan to send them with current flea and tick treatment before their stay, or pay an extra treatment fee of $25 per pet, and I will apply frontline during their stay. I do not accept unuttered male dogs or aggressive dogs. I do not accept certain breeds: Pit Bulls or any derivative there of Bull Terriers Staffordshire Terrier Lab Terrier mix (meaning pit mix) Labs Rottweiler (I am not hating on these breeds, and have taken them in the past. However the risk posed by these breeds causes so much stress and or property damage that it isn’t worth the effort. I end up losing money as I can only watch one at a time and can never leave them to play without being 100% focused and alert, there were many near accidents that had I not been prepared serious trouble would have been caused) High energy dogs that need stimulation, exercise and extra management are welcome and not considered aggressive.

A typical day

Here at my home we spend lots of time playing, running and fetching out in the yard or relaxing in the house (well, the pups relax while I work!) Once all my guests have been adequately exercised we tend to go inside and they usually find a place to settle down on the cool floor and nap for a while. Then it’s back outside to play, and so on. I do not allow fighting, bullying or bossing between my furry guests. However there will be the usual greeting bark during introductions, I don’t allow it to go further than that, I am very careful to maintain an atmosphere of peace and calm. I make adjustments as need based on the current situation. When I do have to leave the house for the odd errand etc. I kennel each pup in their own crate. I crate dogs as little as possible, but it is the safest and most fair option when I have multiple visitors and must leave the house from time to time. I do my best to leave everyone with an entertaining toy and a treat. I also crate pups up during the night. Occasionally I have made exceptions due to extenuating circumstances.
