I use a sturdy nylon leash and will not use a retractable leash for safety reasons. If you have a harness available for your dog, I'd prefer to use that rather than hook into a collar. I try to be as in the moment as possible when I'm with animals, so I keep cell phone distractions to a minimum and will give your pet my full attention. Our walks are their time! I've cared for a lot of fearful and anxious dogs over the years and do my best not to push them. If other dogs or people need to be avoided, we'll cross the street or move to a safer location to prevent any over-excitement or physical altercation. On hot days, I'll keep your dog's age and energy levels in mind. We'll go slow and try to stick to the shade. We may do laps close to home so that we can head back if they appear to be getting too warm. I try to tune into what a dog's comfort level is and respect that, while also doing my best to get them the exercise they need!
