Experienced Owner/Foster/Volunteer

Pet care experience

Hello! My name is Lana. I have a BS in Dental Hygiene from the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry. I have been a Registered Dental Hygienist for over 23 years. When I am not promoting oral health care and taking care of human smiles I am playing, snuggling, sleeping or walking with dogs. I have been caring for my neighbor's 3-4 dogs ( some have passed and have since added a new puppy) who are all rescues of different kinds. I go feed them and let them out to play on days he has to work long days. I have been doing this for the past 6 years. They are like my family. I have three amazing rescue dogs of my own, Violet, Hazel, and Buxley. They are all pit bull type dogs with all different kinds of backgrounds. I did have four until just a few months ago but, unfortunately lost my sweet deaf pittie mix Petunia Lu suddenly and unexpectedly. I am a huge advocate for rescue dogs, especially pit bull type dogs. I am a very active volunteer at the Fort Worth Animal Care and Control with the Orange Dot Crew. There I mostly work with dogs who love their people but don't really care for other dogs to make sure they get time outside in a play yard since they are not able to go out with the groups of dogs. Being a voice for the voiceless is truly my passion and gives me purpose to stand up for them. I have experience handling lots of pit bull type dogs, from my caring for my own dogs to giving freedom rides from the shelter to their new foster home or to go straight to the vet for medical treatment, doing evaluations, or just taking them out in the play yards at the shelter to get some fresh air and have a chance to romp and play. I had a very active role as a volunteer in the largest pit bull type dog rescue in the DFW for a little over 3 years. In my own home I have experience doing rotations due to all of my dogs not being able to be out together at once. I have some experience with basic training skills. I do prefer using a slip lead due to safety to insure that a dog is not be able to slip out the the collar or harness. I will always be on alert for your dogs safety when on walks or while in your home. I am able to give medications if needed and can also trim or dremmel nails as an add-on if needed. I also know signs to be aware of for dehydration, anemia, etc. I do know some basic first aid for dogs such as wound care. I would be honored to meet your pets and have an opportunity to care for them or walk them.

Lana is one of the biggest dog lovers I’ve met and will absolutely treat your pups like they are her own. Lana is knowledgeable, responsible, and most of all kind. She has a lot of experience through her volunteer roles and local animal rescue as well as with her own dogs. I guarantee that your pups will be in great hands with Lana!!

I have volunteered side by side with Lana for the past few years and it has always made me smile at how gentle and caring she is with the dogs we rescued. She is also one of the most dedicated owners that I have ever met, always putting the needs of her dogs above all else.

Information Lana N. would like to know about your pet

As I mentioned before, I have a lot of experience with pit bull type dogs. Also, golden retrievers, cattle dog mix. I'm open to anything. As long as they are human friendly. I have experience with a deaf dog. The first rescue that I adopted was a deaf pittie mix. She was born deaf so I raised her and taught her hand signals. She was precious.

A typical day

I live two minutes from Bailey Lake. So if you are close to that area, that is always an option to go for a walk. Depending on how much time you are wanting me to spend with your baby. I love to play fetch. Or just hang out and snuggle and give belly rubs. Whatever the needs are.
