Over the span of the last 15 years I've cared for huskies, labs, pugs, puggles, aussies and almost every other breed under 10lbs. I'm a huge proponent of dog psychology and finding a balance, the best way to start is satisfying their natural drive to work (with a walk or a run of course!). I feel like when that need is satisfied other good behaviors start falling into place, the first order of business is having them understand leash behavior and that you are the pack leader (the most common thing I see is a non-confident dog walker). The key is to stay consistent and create a structured environment for them to abide by, when that starts happening they will remind you when it's time to grab the leash and put your shoes on.
