Dog-Fatherly advice....

Pet care experience

Hmm, what sets me apart from all the other service providers? Other than my baritone voice, which pups really seem to hear, and respond to, personally, I dont know what else sets me apart, as I've not had the pleasure of meeting many of them (as of yet). The ones I do know, I find to be quite similar to me in sharing a huge appreciation for pets of all kinds, shapes and sizes. Also, a common respect for animals and their right to living happy, healthy and loving lives, free from abuse or mistreatment. Having an undersrsnding that dogs have personalities, unique to themselves, but that they all posess similar behaviours, and they can be managed. Also, knowing that a pup expressing their behaviours isn't right or wrong, but rather 's just a part of them and there is always a reason why. Finding the reason out, and working with the pup is half the fun, (and leaves me with endless photo opportunities to send along to their owners). I do have over 15 years of direct experience with dogs, having been an owner for most of my adult life, as well as a significant portion of my childhood! Primarily, I work with dogs, as I have my most relevant experience with them. I am comfortable working with all ages, sizes, physical conditions, and even post operative care. I'm comfortable administering all types of medications, pharmacological and herbal . I'm alos quite flexible with my schedules and believe thst life is stressful enough, dogsittng should NOT add to it. I respect each owners right to select their own training methods, and have no problem reinforcing them, so long as they don't violate my values!! I also enjoy sending updates to owners snout their pup and how they are handling while away. I tailor each update to the pup and owner, and send at least one per day. Lastly,if your pup gets dirty from all the playing and running around, they will return just as, if not cleaner than at drop-off time. Bathing here has become an exercise in follow-the-leader (Dexter) as he LOVES being bathed. It's his fondness and Dexterity In the bathtub, thst seems to win over most pups. (I'm also in the process of becoming pet cpr and first aid certified). as well. I will be sure to post my achievement on the app, when achieved. Bathing, walking, feedings if need be, MEDICATION Any pup stayjng with us (Dexter and myself) will have become part of our family and pack, not just while here! As a member of our pack, physical and mental stimulation and engagement is an absolute! There won't be a day that goes by where your pup will be wide awake, come the end of the day. Most often, they are sprawled out across my bed, or living room space, and e are told that any pup whos stayed with us, has slept almost the entire day after heading back home. There is never a dull moment here!!. Whether Dexter is expertly, and appropriately playing with ANY sized dog, or we are out for an adventure, walking throughout the city, or roaming the open fields of the local dog park, we/I guarantee your pup will be loved and cherished almost as well as if he were home with you.

We booked Marley's stay with Kyle and Dexter after seeing positive reviews from others and meeting with him to see if it would be a good fit. Kyle shared his approach to pet sitting, walked us through a typical day, how he'd manage correcting dog behaviours, and answered any upfront questions we had. Throughout Marley's nearly two-week stay, many updates and pictures were shared including trips to the dog park and walks around the neighborhood. This gave us great assurance that Marley was in good hands. Marley was taken care of exactly as we had requested and returned home exactly as we had left her. I would book again and recommend Kyle and Dexter without any hesitation!

I have a beagle mix rescue who gets anxious in new situations. He instantly felt comfortable and safe with Kyle and Dexter. He came home tired and happy! It has brought me tremendous peace of mind to find someone Louie trusts.

Kyle is great! I appreciate his calm and confident demeanour which helped Comet settle in quickly. This was Comet’s first overnight stay and he seemed to have a great time! Kyle is very knowledgeable and trustworthy. I love that there were multiple dogs for Comet to play with. He got so much exercise!! He had a hard time staying awake on the drive home and even after we arrived home! I 100% recommend and hope Comet can stay with Kyle again in the future.

Kyle has been amazing! Would it be too dramatic to call him a godsend? Recently, he had my girls for day care and an emergency came up last minute where i needed him to keep them overnight. Without hesitation, he agreed to do that and even offered to drop them off for me the next day to save me from having to get them. It was such an unexpected and wonderful gift that came at a time of need. Kyle always has aa smile on his face, he loves my dogs and my dogs love him. Ive been so grateful for his adaptivity, flexibility and cooperative nature! Thanks Kyle!

Safety, trust & environment

Our home is our safe place. It's the one place where, no matter what's happening outside, we can go to relax, unwind, decompress, refuel or just to get some much needed quiet time. Feedings are done in separate spaces (rooms) to minimize potential conflicts, and crates are set up so that each animal has their very own personal space to go to, if they need or want it. If pups have been crate trained, then i hsve no pirI do rent, however my landlord is 100% supportive of this venture, and also enjoys getting to meet and know our furry clientele. We live in an extremely pet-friendly neighborhood, with plenty of other dog owners and dog-walkers who are always happy to meet new pups! I have a fenced backyard with a large deck perfect for realxing in the sun, or when necessary, can provide some welcome shade. (if lounging in the shade of a tree isn't as appealing!). The house has hardwood /laminate floors throughout, and the animals are allowed on the furniture. I also have the ability to quickly and effectively bathe any dog that stays here. If they do get dirty, I will bathe them prior to bedtime so that we can all enjoy a clean and sand/gravel/woodchip free bed! In home, pets are able to freely roam the house. The back door is opened in summer weather, and they can come and go as they please. If I have to leave during the day forban appointment, until their behaviour can be verified as appropriate (I.e. non-destructive) they will be crated. If they are found to be non-destructive, they can be left free along with Dexter while I am out. There will never be an instance where the pets will be left alone for more than 2 hrs. With respect to discipline, I personally subscribe to a behaviour based approach. However, should a client prefer me to follow their tactics/approach with respect to their dog, I am 100% supportive of that. At no time, under no circumstances, will ANY pet be subjected to physical discipline of any sort .Doing so only violates the animals trust in me, making it harder to maintain their respect and obedience. Additionally, if a client does not feel comfortable with their pet going to a dog park, if they let me know, I will respect their concerns and not allow their pup to attend when we make the daily visit. Instead, they will receive alternative options such as a fenced in field to run and exercise in. experience of being a dog owner myself (11+) however, the time came recently where 'my girl' had to move along to 'bigger fields and better smells' this past February, so this past December I adopted the sweet and loving Dexter. He's an Australian Shepherd/Border Collie mix, and is 15 months old. He's extremely dog friendly, and absolutely LOVES to play and run. Dexter can play with dogs of ANY size or age without being too rough. Once we have had a chance to walk as a group, Dexter takes on the role of protector, and the safety evof each and every dog in his pack becomes Dexter's responsibility. He will protect them at all costs while simultaneously envourages them to continue walking, or.correcting inappropriatebehaviours, to even coaxing other to enjoy bathtime!, or keeps them.in line ds My home also has A/C for those really hot and humid days and a wood burning fireplace, great for those cold days to just curl up and enjoy the warmth beside. I also am comfortable making healthy, organic snacks which my past dog absolutely loved, and would be willing to share with any eligible pups that stay with me in the 'Shire'. I always take my pups out for two-three walks a day minimum, and am early to BED, early to rise. Bones and chew toys are allowed in special circumstances, so long as no resource aggression is noted. After big exercise activities, quiet time is encouraged while I tend to other daily tasks.

Information Kyle K. would like to know about your pet

Key information fur me is as follows: 1. Meet and greet first and foremost to make sure Dex approves! 2. Vet information just in case. 3. List of behaviours to be aware of (resource aggression, aggression towards other dogs, adults, children etc.) 4.any special needs and/or instructions 5.any separation anxiety, and if pup is crate trained or not. 6. I also like to get a list of command words that are used to ensure continuity with parents, however I prefer to make use of behavioural based techniques to effect any changes desired by myself or the oets owner(s).

A typical day

Our days start at the crack of dawn, with that wonderful early morning pee (for EVERONE!!) Then it's some baking (varies day by day) for humans and preparation of natural, organic K9 treats for the pack to enjoy throught the day. My neighborhood has endless trails to walk, streets to saunter along, with tons of other dogs out for their daily walks. It's a K9 social paradise! Complete with minimal drama. The day rounds out with two more walks, and maybe a visit to a dog park or field to really run and play with others, or to chase that delectable ball! Walks are all over our neighborhood, sometimes through bush trails or play dates with friends. The evening consists of indoor games (wrestling, napling etc) and depending on temperature, maybe even a nice fire to curl up beside and relax!. Bedtime comes quick and soundly! Throughout the day, I adhere to several tried and tested behavioral techniques to train, reinforce, or to break and create healthy habits. The approach minimizes the packs exposure food resources, thereby decreasing the likelihood of any aggressive or resource gurarding behaviors.

I'm currently on leave from my fulltime job, and have plenty of time during the day to hang out, go on adventures, or throw the ball around with each of your four (or three) legged friends. Myself, I am very active and am either out walking, hiking or cross country mountain biking. I also spend hours at a time buried in my veggie garden, or doing yardwork. Exercise is a must for any dog, if they are to be able to be their happiest and healthiest selves. Activities such as food puzzles, hide and go seek for toys, or even simple wrestling keeps their minds occupied and satiated. Thus, the incidence of destructive or even possibly aggressive behaviour is lessened, and the dogs become even more willing and able to socialize in a healthy way. Thus, we put a heavy emphasis on playtime throughout the day, and yes, sometimes even into the night!
