Rural Stay for Pets

Pet care experience

★1st Time Users Get $20 Off By Using Code @ Checkout. Go to My Pics for Details★ ✓Can Meet Outside During COVID-19✓ I can wear a mask and meet outside during this pandemic. Fully vaccinated. Please feel free to wear a mask or not but please just don't come sick and respect social distancing guidelines. Stay safe & smiling, everyone! ★Hello Fellow Animal Parents!★ I'm Kristine. I'm in my early 30's with no 'human children' (although my dog -10yo neutered/chipped male- thinks he's human, I swear.) I live in a quiet rural neighborhood in a two bedroom home with a huge yard - about 30 minutes outside of State College, PA. The black and white handsome guy in my pictures is King of Hearts. My best buddy... And he loves to play with other dogs even though he's getting old. We'd love to make a lot more friends. His old age hasn't slowed him down much. I'm familiar with a lot of animals and couldn't imagine my life without animals in it. I have some experience working with both domestic and wild and I'm looking forward to learning more. I have a lot of volunteer and sitting experience with dogs and a few cats (large, small, in betwixt.) I've worked around snakes - I have no issues with feedings. (It's natural.) I've watched lizards (Beardies, Skinks, Geckos) tortoises and a terrapin. I've helped with birds/rabbits/fish and a few exotic critters. We even saved baby possums and a few rabbits. In my experience, I've been bit by snakes, cats, a goose (yes, a goose) & the list goes on. It's never been the animal's fault & unless my arm's falling off, the show must go on. In all seriousness, they can't always just tell us as easily as we can tell each other what's going on, or what's wrong with them. So, that being said, I'm not afraid nor uncomfortable to be around larger animals, animals who may be a bit more of a job (yes, even things like cage aggression, although I will only host one potentially reactive animal at a time for obvious safety reasons and would like to know what makes the dog/cat feel fearful, as to avoid those triggers and offer a calm environment.) I will always be willing to meet and discuss the situation together beforehand if there's a situation where the dog/cat may need to "warm up" first. I'm very nonjudgemental about animals. I never know what some of them have endured or maybe they just have a unique personality and lots of energy, also. All I need to combat that potential anxiety - is an idea of what they react to (such as: thunder, bikes, vacuuming, strangers, other animals, certain sounds, etc.) We have a fantastic yard for running around or lounging in the shade on a nice day. I'm very familiarized and comfortable with dogs and I love having a companion while I'm doing things outside and around the house. I haven't had may cats but I'm willing to try. I hear a lot of people who are walking their cats and pigs on harnesses, which is awesome in my opinion. I don't crate the animals and leave them, ever. While I have them, they'll be with me unless there's an emergency, but they will always have care (I have an emergency contact in case of ER who will gladly contact owners.) I'm a bit new to doing this outside of my local area & neighborhood, so if there's anything I forgot, please feel free to get in touch with me if you have ANY questions at all or if I missed something. *I'm much better with animals than I am with people. I'm just a bit of a shy person. Thanks so much for your time and I really look forward to meeting you and your fuzzy family members soon!

Kristine is amazing! My dog Georgina was not 100% during her stay but Kristine made sure to take care of her and make her feel comfortable. Georgina and king of hearts were fast friends and she was not happy to come back home. Kristine is also very communicative and send me lots of updates. I will definitely book her again.

Booked for a boarding. The pups loved her and seemed really happy to be there. I received lots of pics and she took them on lots of walks. She was very accommodating and I was able to get a booking almost last minute. My pups were well taken care of and got a lot of exercise and attention. Definitely will book again in the future!

I usually ask if I can use treats or a toy to meet a dog for the first time. I have no problem getting dirty while playing with dogs. I have a large back yard for the dogs to play in. I always use strong leashes or the wire coated lead (from 50lbs up to 200lbs) to make sure no one accidentally ventures to the road or wanders off. We're rather rural where I live so cars aren't a big threat but it keeps the dogs safe while enjoying the outside weather. Whatever your dogs needs, I'm sure we can communicate so that your animals have the best chance at being comfortable. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me. Anything I can't do, I will be honest about. I also have experience with dogs who have more needs than some. A lot of medical routines can be followed as long as I have the vets information and a set schedule of things like medications or feedings, etcetera. I absolutely adore dogs. Whatever they need to stay happy and healthy can be followed.

Information Kristine E. would like to know about your pet

I'd like to start off by saying that I have absolutely NO breed preferences. I don't even really have a species preference! I am all about the individual animal. No pet is too much of a handful or there's something that's making you hesitant to have someone care for your pet, we can always work something out. Whether it some issues with dominance, aggressive behavior, skittish behavior, and/or physical health issues; I have experience with a lot of animals who were rescued from bad situations. They weren't always so immediately trusting and that's a-okay. We'll get there.) Animals are particular in their own ways just like humans... and some have strict things they're used to and prefer. Some dogs get anxious about breaking routine or new places and I totally sympathize with that. In my opinion, we all must strive to understand our animals better. Domestic and wild. As far as getting the low-down on Spot - I'd like to be briefed on those little quirks. If they need to do anything a special or a specific way. (E.g. My sister's dog wouldn't eat treats off of the floor... Or one dog had to go potty in the same exact space every night - no matter if it was a tropical hurricane outside or not... One dog did NOT trust bicycle wheels or people with mustaches. Another had to be carried up and down stairs because of her painful hip issues.) So, if there's anything particular about your buddy, please let me know so that I may provide the best possible service to you and your fuzzy family. I will not turn down any animals before meeting them and hearing their story. It makes me happy to see the pets and their humans happy. Putting the owner at ease is just as important as making sure that your animal is treated with love and respect. I treat everyone's animals as I treat my own. Whenever they're with me, they will not be crated or left alone. I like to clear my sitting schedule of other dogs/cats whenever boarding unless it's owner's preference that I don't. It's easier to give love and affection to a smaller number of animals. (My sectional sofa is only so big!)

A typical day

As I listed previously, we have a large grassy yard that's conjoined with an unused field that's perfect for fetch, frisbee, or just doing some laps. I also have a go-to trail that's dog friendly that circles around the neighborhood for some fresh air and exercise. Everyone in my neighborhood knows that I always pick up after our dogs, so we're welcome to walk practically anywhere near where I live. If I should go to your pets location, I can either take them on their usual route or to a nearby park by using my GPS (although some dogs didn't like the dog park because some of the dogs got a bit rambunctious, so let me know any preferences, please?) We do plenty of fun activities that are supposed to help stimulate the canine brain. We have snuffle mats and treat dispensing toys. Pack some of their favorite snacks or I can always pick up a few of your pets favorite items to make them feel a little extra special. *If your animal is special needs or has a medical condition and has a cart (wheels) or any type of issues getting around, etcetera, I have over 15 years of experience with my own special needs dog. He passed away but he's the reason I found the determination to learn as much as I could. He had nerve damage and no use of his back legs, had to be fed, given medication, do physical therapy so that his legs didn't atrophy, and bladder expression, etc. He taught me so much and opened my heart so wide to rescues, as he was a rescue, himself.

Availability

I like to take time to offer full time care to your pets. Whenever boarding with me, I will be with your animal. I only accept bookings if I'm absolutely available and have no other dogs currently boarding with me. I like to do my best to make your pet feel safe and comfortable with being somewhere new to them. I can also provide special care to your pup if they have a set schedule (medical or not) that they like to adhere to. Let me know of anything particular you need and we will work it out!
