I’m better with animals than humans

Pet care experience

I’ve always had dogs in my life and after the death of my old lab in 2017, I took a break from canines, only to be lured by my Cane Corso Hugo. Understanding canine behaviour and their need to be part of a pack with strong boundaries allowing them to become amazing family members that are well behaved and loved.

Turns out it wasn’t just my partner and I who had a holiday, Gweni did too! She is absolutely pooped and curled up back on our sofa snoring and from the wonderful updates and pictures we received throughout our 5 days away I’m not surprised! Gweni has had a blast with Kris, Mark and the gentle giant Hugo. It was our first time leaving Gweni with somebody other than family but from the very outset Kris made us feel perfectly at ease and clearly loves dogs. We received regular updates, videos and photos of Gweni’s antics, which put our mind at ease throughout our time away. I don’t think she actually wanted to come home, which is sign of a the wonderful time that she had. Thank you Kris. Would highly recommend!

Typically, family would always house sit for me, but I haven’t long moved to Cardiff. I really wasn’t sure about looking into a pet sitter at first, I felt so bad/guilty, but it was my partner’s 30th birthday and we had a trip planned (Elmo and Ernie don’t travel very well, so the car journey to my home town felt like an unnecessary stress. I do share an apartment with two friends who have very busy lifestyles/jobs and aren’t always around, so I didn’t want to put the responsibility of my boys onto them; I felt finding someone local was the best option). Kristen and Mark were amazing from start to finish. When I say you won’t find nicer people to look after your animals, I really mean it; they were welcomed and genuinely cared for. They treated them like their own and my boys definitely felt it (Ernie is very aloof, but he made himself right at home and really came out of his shell, I was so surprised). Seeing how comfortable they were in Kristen and Mark’s home was so reassuring, as well as the updates and pictures, they’re both such lovely guys. Elmo and Ernie were so happy there that I don’t think they wanted to leave! I couldn’t recommend them enough, I’d now never want anyone else to look after them. I was so happy that they’re booked back in for a few weeks time (another short trip booked by family for my partner’s birthday). Thank you both!!!

Casper had an amazing weekend with Kristen as his dog sitter. He quickly bonded with Hugo, and their playful antics kept Casper thoroughly entertained. It's clear Kristen provided excellent care, as Casper returned home happy and happily exhausted. A wonderful experience overall!

Although my profile says I accept multiple dogs, this is not accurate. I have set it up this way to ensure that I show available while I am dealing with many pending requests which the don’t book. Enhanced DBS and registered with the DBS update service. For boarding, All dogs receive a GPS tracker attached to their collar on arrival. It will be removed at the end of their stay. In the unlikely event of an escape, they can quickly be found and returned to the house. If requested, this can also be supplied for house sitting . I have a fenced garden. Within that garden is a gated yard, all gates have locks. All external doors are locked as my Hugo found a way of unlocking them and letting himself out. There is CCTV front of house and in the back yard. Hugo is allowed on one sofa in the house and is not allowed upstairs, so no beds. He’s far too heavy. The dogs will have the run of the whole downstairs during the day. At night, your dog will either sleep on the sofa, large dog mat or even crated (if trained). There is plenty of water available and is replaced at regular times throughout the day. I believe that routines are vital in a dogs life and this has served me well in the past and current. This should not be any different for your dog. Exercise is crucial and I have access to plenty of parks in my area as well as secure transport to take the dogs to the beach or lakes further afield. It is important to me and your dog , that we initially meet with a meet and greet in a public place during daylight hours. This can be done during the weekends and now that the days are getting longer, I am come visit during the day into the evening. This way safety and security is maintained for all of us you. I encourage all of those involved in the care of your dog rot comer along to the meet and greet. Children are especially encouraged to come along, as they can also give insights to the pet that adults sometimes forget. I am happy to decline a booking if a meet and great cannot be agreed. I will only accept 1 boarding booking at a time. Where there is more than 1 dog, they must live together. I have a doggy day room with TV, Music, Sofa and soft lighting. The day room is secure and outside noise is minimised. After recently working with some dogs with anxiety, I am currently seeing how plug in pheromones help to reduce this. I don’t like seeing dogs in a stressed state. Independent research suggests that pheromones can help with the reduction of anxiety and stress related behaviours. If you don’t want the pheromones switched on, please let me know. You will expect the room to be cleaned every day, and deep cleaned at the end of every booking with fresh clean covers on the sofa. If required, you can receive a daily update of your dogs adventures. These are lighthearted and positive updates which focus on how your dog is getting on. If possible, photos and videos will be taken and will be sent to you along with the updates. These are usually sent at 2200, and I find that this can help with managing any worries you may have. In some cases, the update will be sent first thing in the morning. I will always advise if there is a delay to the evening update.

Information Kristen E. would like to know about your pet

It is important that you are open and honest about any behaviour that may not be usual. Any unpredictable behaviours, quirks, routines. Many dogs come to dog sitters as kennels are not appropriate for your dog. There is no judgement and we can talk (if possible) about tools and ideas which may work to help you and your baby live a more settled and calmer life. Of course; any health conditions that may need monitoring. Meet and greet will give a chance to talk about these and put your plans in place. If you want your dog to be collected and/or returned or washed and groomed during your stay, this can be arranged at an additional charge.

A typical day

It is important that we talk about your dogs routine, and how this can be maintained while you are away. Morning schedules are based around waking up and preparing of rthe day, as well as housework and Amy work chores. From lunchtime, the focus is on the dogs a there is where we will arrange time for walking. I belong to walking groups and have access to other dogs throughout the week to encourage socialisation and encourage play. My dog comes with me to most places and this will include the pub once a week. I choose pet friendly places to go, if Hugo can’t come in with me, then I’ll spend my time and money. elsewhere.
