Reliability and empathy. These are the two traits that have always mattered most to me when I’m looking for someone to care for my pets. I need to know that someone is going to show up at the agreed upon time and do the agreed upon things, and I need for that person to genuinely care about and ensure my pets’ well-being. This is what I bring to every pet sitting assignment: Reliability and empathy. I ran my own 5-star rated pet sitting/dog walking business from 2017 - 2019 - Northwest Pets DC (you can find the businesses profile on Yelp and NextDoor to look at reviews). I decided to close the business in September 2019 because my clintele was growing quickly at the same time that my "day job" demands were increasing exponentially, and I could not reliably meet both demands. I have experience caring for cats with diabetes, kidney disease, and heart disease. I have participated in TNR (trap, neuter, return) programs in the US and in Greece, and have volunteered at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Utah. Finally but very importantly, when I am visiting with your pets they are my sole focus. I'm not talking on the phone, I'm not listening to a podcast, I'm not scrolling social media. Something that drives me crazy is when I see a professional dog walker out walking one or more dogs looking at their phone while doing so. You are paying good money and your pet deserves my undivided attention.

Kirstyn is truly a professional. She promptly arrange a meet and greet, sent details about her planned arrival time for a midday walk, and sent a thorough overview of how the walk went. She was responsive and kind, definitely someone we'd book again!

I approach each pet sitting assignment with a "safety" first mentality, which means I am on the lookout for any health conditions that might present during my visit (unusual litter box activity, changes in appetite, etc.) and for any potential hazards in the home (I once did an overnight with an asthmatic cat and when I arrived for the pet sit there was an overwhelming smell of a gas leak. That entire evening was spent not only caring for the cat but hosting the crew from Washington Gas while they came out and repaired multiple leaks that the owner was unaware of because she didn't have a sense of smell!).

I would like to know about your cats preferences as far as physical contact, prefered toys, hiding behaviors, usual eating/drinking habits, escape artist tendencies, etc. I will also want to know where you keep all the food and other pet supplies, as well as basic household items like cleaning supplies.
A typical day
If your kitty likes to play I will engage them with their favorite toys. If your kitty likes to cuddle, I'm on it! I love to take great photos of pets for their humans and find that the best photos come when you are actively engaging the pet in their favorite activities.

Availability
My "regular" job is a work-from-home administrative contract role for a small local business that takes around 25-30 hours per week. Because I have some extra time in my schedule, I would like use this time to take great care of your pets.
