My experience with dogs starts when I was a toddler, clinging to the family akita-mix who loved me to the point of letting tiny-me crawl all over her and ride her around the house. I've essentially been around dogs since I was a young child - as the daughter of a vet tech, I've grown up peeking through her medical textbooks and helped her study for her courses as she progressed from veterinary assistant to veterinary technician. My childhood allowance was earned through walking, feeding, and cleaning up after the medical-stay and boarding dogs at the veterinary clinic my mother worked at. I've done quite a bit of volunteering with National Mill Dog Rescue, where I learned a great deal about dog behavior and socializing traumatized dogs. I've also helped foster many special cases from NMDR, particularly dogs who couldn't handle the kennel environment of the rescue's main building. More recently, I've worked over 4 years for a doggy daycare and boarding kennel, getting to know dogs of all kinds of personalities and needs. While not a certified vet assistant, I am comfortable in administering medications and caring for elderly dogs. One of my own furbabies is a rescued husky who has been blind his whole life, so I'm 100% comfortable in caring for your disabled furbabies. My other furbaby is another rescue, who started as a half-feral puppy from the east side of Colorado Springs, so I'm no stranger to sensitive dogs who didn't have a typical start and aren't comfortable with just anyone and need patience, understanding, and someone willing to go at their pace. Our cat is also special-needs; before we adopted him, he'd been hit by a car that left him with permanent brain damage. If you're looking for someone more sensitive and patient to work with your nervous, traumatized, or just simply shy dog(s), I just may be the new best friend for your furbabies. * I am returning to college and also work part-time, so my availability may not stay consistent. All house-sitting, dog walks, and drop-ins will be worked around my work and class schedule. If I can't be absolutely certain that I'll be available during a specific time you want me, I may decline your request, or instead offer to sit down and work with you to find something that works for everyone.
