Active, outdoorsy animal lover

Pet care experience

I am a college student at the University of New Hampshire, which means that I have a very flexible schedule. I have a lot of experience dog sitting for neighbors and family members. When I was younger, I grew up with a black lab named Molly and at my dad’s house back home I have a short-haired dachshund also named Molly. I look forward to the day when I can adopt dogs of my own... I truly love all types of dogs! I enjoy spending as much free time as possible outdoors. Bad weather isn’t a deterrent, so I absolutely will have no problem taking your dog(s) for walks in the snow, sleet, hail, rain, or whatever weather comes this way. Spending quality time and care is a priority for me, as someone who believes dogs should be treated respectfully and with endless love. I also currently have a short-haired tuxedo cat named Happy, who lives indoors at my mom’s house back home. We adopted him in 2014 and he has since been loved and given a furrever home. Before Happy, in 2013, we sadly had to put down our old cat, Sophie, who was also an indoor, short-haired, tuxedo cat that we adopted in 2006. I am most certainly both a dog lover AND cat lover! Please feel free to reach out to me with any additional questions you may have.

Kimberly is an outstanding pet sitter/dog walker! She is reliable, trustworthy, and truly goes above and beyond. Our golden doodle puppy has endless energy and will often try to bother the two older cats, if he isn’t properly tuckered out. She took him for long daily walks, trips to the local dog park, and even sent us pictures/videos of their adventures. Our older cats definitely appreciated this and warmed up to her quickly despite their general wariness toward other strangers. She was patient with our shy kitties and quickly picked up on some of their finicky behaviors. It was especially great having someone that’s owned both dogs and cats, as we knew our pets would be in experienced hands. We would definitely have Kimberly watch our pets again!

Kimberly cared for our older yellow lab, Hank, several times. Once, he was in her care for two weeks while we were abroad. It was obvious that they enjoyed each other’s company. Both were happy and enthusiastic when we returned! You can trust Kimberly with the smallest or largest of pets. She is patient, friendly, and energetic. Complete and full recommendation!

Safety, trust & environment

I have always cared for other people’s pets in their own homes mostly because it happened to be these owners’ preferences or I was out-of-state at school at the time. Over the years, I’ve recognized the benefits of this, such as how it simplifies pet care arrangements (i.e. no need to worry about the owner’s dog and my dog getting along, potentially forgetting to bring an important medication, favorite toy, etc.) for everyone. Moreover, most of these owners were worried about the impact on their pet of having to adjust to a new environment in addition to already being anxious about their owner being away for several days. Ultimately, I strive to make things easier for both the owner and their pets. It’s extremely important to me when caring for someone else’s dog that I provide the same TLC as I do with my own dog — not only because of my love and respect for animals, but because of how significant a pet is in someone’s life, along with how they placed their trust in me to care for their four-legged loved one. In order to make the transition and adjustment as seamless and stress-free as possible for your dog, it’s important to me that I maintain the same routine and household rules for your dog. My dog sleeps in my bed and he is allowed on all the furniture (in fact he likes to make it clear where his spot is on the couch!). On the other hand some people don’t allow their dog on the bed or certain furniture and I respect their rule for this and that the dog is trained to abide by this. Also, I recognize the importance of why it may be crucial for your dog to have a routine, as it could be the need for medication to be consistently given at the same time or for the crucial continuation of a structured routine, so that your dog continues to learn the behavioral skills from training. For example, my sister has a consistent schedule she adheres to for her highly-energetic puppy, who requires routine to break his bad habits along with other training — should someone new and inexperienced step in for a week to care for him without regard to this, it would set him back in his training, along with resulting in some degree of emotional distress from the sudden and complete impact on his daily life.

I fully believe that each and every dog has a distinct personality, which like humans is defining of who they are. Consequently, the an individual dog’s needs are based reflects the very same nature of how the needs of one person (i.e. health conditions, amount of exercise for a healthy lifestyle, physical behavioral varies drastically when compared relative to someone else.

A typical day

I am a very active person, so when I am home I enjoy taking Molly, my current dog, on long walks. Molly is a dachshund, so she doesn’t like to go on hikes, but I would be thrilled to take dogs on a hike with me. Moreover, I enjoy visiting dog parks and running around or just playing fetch for up to an hour or more.
