Soft spot for older guys and gals

Pet care experience

Dogs are a huge part of my life--I currently own three, have fostered multiple dogs, and volunteer with The Dog Alliance with my own certified therapy dog. I've worked with all kinds of dogs--"hyper" ones, old ones, fearful ones, sassy ones--and have found something to love and admire in all of them. I have a soft spot for older dogs, fearful dogs, terriers, and so-called "bully breeds." I rely on positive methods in my interactions with dogs--lots of praise and encouragement. I'm familiar with dog body language, which helps me "talk" with dogs and know how they're feeling. My experience as a classroom teacher has helped me learn to be patient and flexible, and that's something I bring to my interactions with dogs.

Information Kimberly F. would like to know about your pet

I require a meet and greet (free) for all potential new clients--that allows all of us to see if it's a good fit. If this is for boarding in my home, your dog needs to be dog-friendly (all three of ours are) and crate-trained. I'd like to know the dog's regular daily schedule, if there are any pottying/feeding issues, sleeping arrangements, any on-going health issues, and what the dog likes to do for fun and engagement.

A typical day

I follow the dog's lead--playtime, sunning, hiking, or just relaxing. I want to make the dogs comfortable and content and keep them to their usual routine as much as I can. Cuddling is always a top priority for me.

Availability

House-sitting: I stay overnight in your home. Usually, that means that I am there from about 5 p.m. to 7 a.m at minimum, with potty breaks in between during the day. Boarding: Offered during summer or weekends, when I am off from teaching; guests are with me, my husband, and our pack of three all day and night. They'd go on early morning walks with us and have lots of time to hang out and cuddle inside and/or play in the backyard. Because my own dogs are elderly and sedate, I prefer to host dogs who are calm and low to medium energy.
