Your Best Friend's Best Friend

Pet care experience

I have over 25 years experience caring for animals -- dogs, cats, gerbils, and horses. Pets are our friends, companions, and family, and they depend on us to keep them safe and healthy, and feeling secure and loved. I want your pet to have such a good time while we are together that they're looking forward to the next visit. I have experience with meeting the special needs of older dogs -- I had two older dogs and know they need a little extra TLC and encouragement.

Safety, trust & environment

Taking care of another's pet is a huge responsibility. I will want to know all about your pet's needs, habits, and routines to make our time together as enjoyable as possible. When I am outside with pets, I am scanning the surroundings for things that we need to avoid -- whether it's a broken bottle or glass on the sidewalk, an aggressive dog coming down the street, or a child running by that may spook your pet. Regardless of whether I am visiting in your home or out on a walk, the goal in every case is to have fun and be safe.

Information Kevin M. would like to know about your pet

I will ask a lot of questions initially about your dog's personality, likes/dislikes, and if they have any triggers: are they uncomfortable around children, or other dogs, for example? If they need medication, please let me know what it is, how it is administered, and the schedule. (I like to use Pill Pockets, or something similar, for oral medications. I can give injections, but if your dog doesn't respond well to injections and it is safer to do that with another person there to hold your pet, then I would politely decline that.

A typical day

Dogs rely more on their sense of smell than sight to make sense of their world, so I try to vary our walks and outings to make sure that they have variety and something new to experience. If ww are at home and staying it, what we do depends on what they seem to be interested in -- maybe it's tug of war with their rope toy or stuffed animal, maybe instead it's some gentle petting or brushing. I'll make sure the water dish is filled before the visit is over.
