Happy dog, happy home!

Pet care experience

Allie and I love our mutt (Murphy) to death and always treat any other dog in our care as if they're our own. I work from home and would be the primary care giver, as Allie works as a nurse and has more of an unpredictable schedule. I am very good at reading the body language of dogs and being able to tell when they're uncomfortable, scared, annoyed, or angry, and I have a lot of experience in handling all kinds of dogs in just about every situation. The well being of both your pup and ours is the main priority and we go out of our way to give them an enjoyable life. Seeing the dogs happy makes us happy! This is how a typical day from Murphy goes: He wakes up around 7 or 8 and will meander outside a little bit or lounge around in the living room. Throughout the morning he is pretty chill and does more meandering and lounging. He typically goes on a 1-2 mile walk around lunchtime and then sleeps all afternoon until about 5 where he really reaches the height of his energy levels and isn't afraid to talk to us about wanting to play. If he has a doggy friend come over during the day then he has no problem "turning it on" at any time and LOVES to play chase and wrestle in his yard. He'll wear himself out playing hard for about 30 minutes or so and then likes to go to his spot on the couch to relax. If his dog friend is over all day he'll get up and try to go initiate play again several times a day, but he will not over stimulate himself (Ha!) During the evening hours he is spunky and playful but likes to go to bed around 9pm (what a bum). We have a fenced-in, good-size backyard for play and exploration, with a doggy door for easy access. When Murphy DOES want to play he can be persistent with his initiation, but he is submissive in nature and if he frustrates any other dog then we will force him to back off. As your dog gets to know Murphy, they will be monitored closely so that I can pick up on how they like each other and how they interact with each other. The dogs would never be left alone for any amount of time more than 10 minutes until we're all comfortable with each other and know each other well. At that point monitoring is done on a dog-by-dog basis. However it plays out - your dog's safety, trust and environment will always be at the forefront of how we handle their care. Murphy loves car rides and running errands with me and if your dog is allowed they are certainly welcome to join us. They will not be left in the car by themselves for more than 5 minutes (a true in and out errand) and never if it's too hot. The only errands Murphy is allowed to come on during the hot days are those that I am always in the car with him and the car is running with the AC on. If your dog is allowed to go on walks with us, we'll be sure to not go too far for your dog's endurance levels. We'll also make sure that during the hot days, our walks are at an appropriate time where the pavement (or air) isn't too hot. We'll also make sure that we mind our own business on our walks and don't risk getting into any situations with unknown dogs and multiple leashes that could get tangled. Fresh water will always be available inside and outside, and food will handled if and as requested by you. Your dog will never be crated (unless specifically requested), locked outside or in a room, or left alone while under our care. If the dogs need to be separated to give each other space or to be forced to take a break because they're having too much fun, we will handle that situation appropriately and make sure both dogs can give each other that space safely. If I anticipate a day with such a heavy work load that I would not trust my own ability to give our dogs the care and attention they need, I will let you know with as much advanced notice as possible and would rather cancel the day then have a dog not properly cared for. Though generally speaking, my work is flexible enough to allow me to give that proper care on a regular basis. There will never be another dog other than Murphy at home with your dog, except in very particular circumstances where we all (humans and dogs) know who the additional dog is and are okay with it. Our general rule of thumb is to keep it at two. If you have any other specific questions or concerns - please let us know!

Kevin and Allie are by far the best pest sitters we've had experiences with. It's obvious that they both have a heart for animals and that they take great care of their own pup. We use them for the daycare. Our yellow lab, Tucker, is best friends with their Murphy. He always seems so happy when we pick him up and by the time we get home he's "tuckered" out. Kevin and Allie do a great job of communicating with us and keeping us updated on how Tucker is doing throughout the day and we always get fun pictures and videos. They are very responsible and knowledgeable and always ask for our permission before doing anything out of the ordinary with Tucker or before giving him any special "treats". It's so nice to have a place close by where we can take Tucker and know that he is getting the attention and care we want him to have. They have a good sized backyard for play but if the weather keeps them inside then they always take Murphy and Tucker for a walk to get some energy out. Murphy is a sweetheart and loves to play. We have never had any issues. Couldn't ask for better sitters!

You can tell Kevin is a dog person from the moment he interacts with your dog(s)! They seem to instantly love and trust him, which we all know dogs have the best instincts about people. ;-) he has always been extremely helpful and flexible with our pups, and been able to handle extra difficulties as these large dogs have gotten older and needed special attention and even more love. I'd highly recommend him to anyone who wants the peace of mind that their fur family is being well taken care of.

Information Kevin & Alexandria R. would like to know about your pet

We would like our dog, Murphy, to meet your furry friend on an initial visit, to ensure they get along and can coexist. Murphy is by no means territorial or aggressive in any way and absolutely loves having play friends. The only thing he doesn't really care for is puppies and dogs with an uncontrollably high energy. We believe it is best for both parties to witness an initial visit so we can all be confident in whatever arrangement that is made!

A typical day

Allie has a pretty random nursing schedule but I work from home M-F. We travel out of town on a semi-regular basis on the weekends. For a detailed description of Murphy's day, please see read further into the "About" section above. Let us know if you think your dog would fit in! Murphy is very flexible and can adapt to most schedules.
