Put Your Dog in Responsible Hands
Pet care experience
Hi there! I'm a grad student with a lot of time to structure, and a need for some serious dog-time! I just spent the last couple months helping my parents train and care for our new English Shepherd puppy, Scout. (She has major personality, amazing attitude, and I miss her dearly--pictured above). I love keeping up to speed with new training ideas, and taking pups on adventures--Scout loves walking as much as swimming. My grandmother rescued huskies and malamutes (and one sweet chow-chow), so I grew up my whole life around dogs, and love getting to know their personalities, likes, and dislikes. I would love to get to know your pup through walks, pets, and play. I love a neighborhood walk (and have some kickboxing-trained-arm-strength for any sudden squirrel excitement). If needed, I can administer medicine (orally, or through clever cheese tricks), bathe a muddy furball, or give a good brush. Lastly: I am very good at belly rubs. Dogs are family, and I know how important it is to know they're happy and safe. I'm excited to help, and don't hesitate to reach out with questions or concerns.
Reviews
Kerry was great! We had a quick meet & greet before she walked Patches for the first time and she was very communicative/responsive throughout the process. Highly recommend!
Kerry has a decided soft spot in her heart for dogs. She grew up with canines, both at her grandparents' home --where Malamutes and Huskies and even a Chow Chow abided--and at her family home with our beloved mixed breed, Ellie. Now we have a new dog, an English Shepherd that Kerry has spent time training with discipline and love. Your dogs will be in wonderful hands!

Before sitting for a dog, it's important for me to know a little about the size, breed, temperament as well as: - habits (when do they eat? how frequently do they need to go out?); - any quirks or fear triggers (do loud noises frighten them? what tends to sooth them?); - any commands you use, and behavior you want me to watch out for or reward; - what they love! (do they respond best to treats or play?) For walking, knowing some of the above helps--but especially commands and temperament toward strangers, children, and dogs. I'm open to many breeds! Most of my experience is with medium- to-large dogs, in particular retrievers and working dogs. I grew up around huskies, malamutes, and shepherds--a Belgian Groenendael/retriever mix and a sprightly English Shepherd--so I've got a soft spot there. But I'm just as smitten with my friend's clever rat terrier--so all dogs welcome!
A typical day
We'll take a walk through the canine cosmopolitan world of Center City parks--Seger, Cianfrani, Hawthorne, Washington Square. We can practice sits and stays as we make our way through city streets--and otherwise keep to side-streets, away from major thoroughfares. If it makes sense location- and time-wise, we might explore the Schuylkill River Trail and its smorgasbord of scents. If house sitting, I like to practice some basic commands, and a game of fetch, dug, or hide-and-seek are all on the table! OH and scratches and belly-rubs--all day every day.
