I am your dog's best friend!

Pet care experience

Hello! My name is Kendall, though I go by Amelia. I am a nurse currently working night shift and I have been missing spending time with dogs. I've loved dogs since my family rescued our first off the streets about 15 years ago. Now our dogs are going on 10 and 17 years old! While I was growing up, I was typically the go-to pet sitter for neighborhood families while they were away on vacation. In that time, I cared for anywhere from 1 to 4 dogs at a time with varying ages and needs. I moved to Baltimore in 2019 and when I realized I could not have a dog of my own due to unpredictable moves in the future (military), my two roommates and I decided to start fostering dogs from the Baltimore Humane Society. We fostered one dog through BHS before COVID-19 hit. Then, we decided to foster two dogs through Dogs on Deployment and cared for them for six months. Before I moved from Baltimore in May 2021, I had built up a solid group of clients for both dog-walking and dog-sitting. From May-June 2021, I worked for Critterwatch, a locally owned pet-sitting and dog-walking company in Spring, TX. While I was with Critterwatch, I walked and visited more than 10 clients a day. Some of my families I worked with had 5+ dogs and several cats. I am used to busy homes! I am a very active individual and love to take dogs on walks, to the dog park, or to play fetch. I have some experience with reactive dogs and do my best to avoid other dogs as well as use re-focusing tactics in these situations. I am personally a proponent of positive reinforcement training and am open to continuing an owner’s training while their dog is in my care. I am comfortable administering both oral and injectable medications as it is very similar to what I do as a nurse. I also have experience administering subcutaneous fluids in felines. As I mentioned, my family pets are both seniors, so I'm also comfortable with taking things slow and understanding the various needs your senior pet may have. I strive to accommodate dogs with quirks and try to keep change and their anxiety to a minimum. I believe in developing a unique care plan for each dog that will best suit the owner and their fur baby; I am flexible!

Kendall was absolutely fantastic with our two dogs! It was the first time we used Rover for overnights and we couldn’t of been in better hands. Kendall sent pics throughout the weekend and kept us updated. Our dogs loved her!

Kendall was amazing! She helped me to do some training with CJ for his reactivity in an enclosed space. She was very patient and confident with the exercises. Her confidence helped CJ to remain calm and gain confidence during the training. Would definitely book with Kendall again!

Kendall did an amazing job! She listened to my concerns, went for a walk with Max and I before she housesit so she could see his behavior on the leash and in public. She kept me updated throughout the stay and even washed towels and changed sheets before I got home. Way above and beyond needed, but much appreciated. Plus I came home to a happy non-stressed out dog which in the end is all that matters. If I could use her again I definitely would, but unfortunately she moved from the area. Thanks again Kendall!!!

If you’re looking for someone you can trust with any dog - Kendall is your girl! We have a very large rescue who can be reactive on the leash and worried he would be too much for a dog walker. Kendall totally put us at ease! She came to meet him beforehand and was so receptive to how we manage him and committed to keeping his walks consistent. So appreciative and will definitely book again!

Safety, trust & environment

I have a policy that I meet you and your pets before providing any care. My priority is that both you and your fur babies feel comfortable with me, especially before I meet them solo or enter your home to provide care. I also aim to provide as much continuity and familiarity to your pet as possible, so we will work together to develop a plan to do this!

Information Kendall T. would like to know about your pet

Before I care for your pup(s), I want to know about their quirks and special needs! What does your pet enjoy doing? Is she/he friendly with other dogs and people? Would you like me to take her/him to the dog park? Are there any potential problem behaviors I can look out for? I want to make your pet's experience as comfortable as possible.

A typical day

No matter how energetic your dog is, I can match their energy level. I typically start my day with a long walk or run and your dogs are absolutely coming with me! As much as physical exercise is important, so is mental stimulation. We'll play some games and try puzzles to make your dog think. If your dog is up for it, I'm open to taking them on hikes or to dog parks in the area.

Availability

Given my current schedule (3-4 shifts per week from 7pm-7am), I am typically available after 4pm on days I am not working. Unfortunately these days change from week to week, so I do my best to keep my calendar updated. I would likely be a good fit for an individual that also works night shift and needs someone to come to their home and walk/care for their pets late at night or early in the morning.
