Love a pet is my daily mantra!

Pet care experience

I’ve been an Animal Assisted Therapy instructor at the University of Denver’s Graduate School of Social Work as well as an Animal Assisted Therapist. I’ve also volunteered at a local rescue since moving back to CO 12 years ago. Prior to that, in addition to being a licensed Social Worker, I volunteered at an equine Animal Assisted Therapy ranch, worked at the Wisconsin Humane Society and for a veterinarian. I’ve cared for countless pets as their foster, pet sitter and as my personal pets! I’ve cared for pets pre and post surgery, during and after seizures as well as while needing life saving medical treatments. I once delivered a breach calf and I also jumped into a partially frozen, Wisconsin cold, lake to save a drowning dog. My passions are animal rights, civil rights and the human-animal bond. I’ve soulfully loved animals my entire life and would honor the opportunity to look after your “baby” while you’re busy enjoying life outside your home!!

We had Kelli watch our two dogs for a week. We have a 3 yr old male Husky mix that we rescued a year ago, and is timid around strangers. And, a (7) month old Golden Retriever with the normal puppy energy and chewing tendencies. Our biggest concern was to have a dog and house sitter that would spend most of this time in our house. In addition, we were looking for a mature adult that would have a calming effect and spend quality time with our dogs. Kelli did a good job with meeting these needs, as well as keeping us posted with text messages and videos on a regular basis. In addition, Kelli had come down with a cold during her stay, Andy continued to fulfill her obligation. We would use Kelli again to watch our dogs. The only concern we had was that we would have liked for Kelli to clean up after herself better. But this could have been an unclear expectation on our part and/or due to feeling sick.

Kelli goes above and beyond!! She took our dog to the park every day, sent tons of videos, gave her lots of love and even let her sleep in her bed. We will definitely be using her in the future!

Loved how she took lots of notes about the dogs. Our three dogs seemed to enjoy having her stay with them very much. They were very calm when we came home. Our home was clean when we got home. We plan to use her again.

Since I’m able to be with them so much, I add lots of snuggling and quality bonding time. I take things slowly, building a rapport and trust through consistency. I find lots of positive reinforcement hugs and kisses go along way! 😊

Information Kelli C. would like to know about your pet

The more I know about your pet ahead of time, the better! Preferences, habits, personality, eating habits, medication needs, physical limitations, handling methods and the like all help me care for them just as you would!

A typical day

I believe in addressing all of your pets needs; physical, mental and emotional. I can take them on walks exploring new areas as well as drives to new parks, for those who love car rides! I’m a strong advocate of games that facilitate engaging the mind so any approved stimulating game as well! I take pride in addressing all 3 primary areas so they are comfortable, safe, challenged and at the end of the day - tired and happy!

I’m only outside of the home an absolute maximum of 15 hours weekly thus I am perfectly suited to easily add the daily responsibilities of pet care and am ready to do so enthusiastically!! I’m able to both stay in your home, which lessens the stress for some pets. I am, however, more than happy to watch them in my large, clean, comfortable home as well! The change of scenery coupled with the one on one attention is phenomenal for some pups!! OF NOTE; ANY additional home care requests such as watering plants, vacuuming, etc. are additional costs to be discussed at the meet and greet. General rule of thumb is $20 per hour, per service, minimum 1 hour billing per service. I will of course bring in your mail and any packages daily for no extra charge and can take most garbage and recycling cans out for weekly pick up, also at no charge - weight would be the only determining factor here. Any additional last minute requests made after the meet and greet will NOT be addressed. Of most importance; I MUST be notified PRIOR to my stay if you have either indoor or outdoor cameras. I do not mind said cameras, but DO NOT consent to their use without my knowledge of their existence and placement. Thank you! Lastly, please do not have any vaccinations given or new medications started within 72 hours of leaving. Monitoring for allergic reactions should be given a proper 72 hour time frame. And finally, please cancel if your dog has had major surgery within a week of your trip and is beginning pt of any type while you’re gone. Should this surgery occur emergently, please notify me as soon as you are able so we can discuss the additional physical, medical and transportation needs and the associated fees in accordance with the newly added responsibilities. Again, thank you!
