Walk,talk,sing,play with your dog!

Pet care experience

I've been caring for dogs for my friends and family for the past 4 years. A senior pit mix stole my heart in a community household situation and I've been borrowing dogs to fill the void ever since. I love to take dogs out to the park, on hikes or for strolls around the neighborhood. I talk to them, sing to them and act silly. I do well with dogs that don't often take to people easily. I'm also comfortable administering doggy pills and doing so on a schedule. I'm a full time musician and part time guitar teacher which means I'm usually around the house practicing, or playing music with others. If I'm out and about and know I'll be gone longer than a few hours then they'll be along for the ride.

Kayla is great! She has done house stays with our cat and dog twice now over holidays with no issues and she is respectful of our home. Our dog, who is often very wary of strangers, took to her quickly and is clearly at ease around her.

We originally booked Kayla to watch our dog for 5 days while we were out of the country. Before the stay was booked she came over to meet him and all seemed well. The first evening she was watching him she messaged us that our dog had tried to bite her three times. The behavior and experience she described was something we had never seen out of our dog nor never reported by any of our other dog sitters or Rovers (and we’ve used quite a few!). At this point she told us that she was unable to continue watching our dog- leaving us scrambling to look for another sitter for 5 days, from Mexico, over thanksgiving! We were lucky to find someone after making a few calls, but it was a very tough situation. In this review I’m not intending to downplay or question the experience she had as it is certainly her own, but I do question the level of experience Kayla actually has dog sitting and feel she doesn’t truly recognize the responsibility of caring for our beloved pets. This was a nightmare of a situation and something I wouldn’t want anyone else to experience. (The sitter that later stepped in for Kayla reported zero issues with our dog.)

Kayla was a great dog/house sitter for our two dogs! She kept us updated throughout the weekend and sent us pictures each day. She even boiled their water for them when the City of Asheville had a boil water notice. Will definitely be using Kayla again in the future!
