Loving even the ruff dogs
Pet care experience
*I am currently accepting new clients!* I grew up on a farm with dogs, cats, cattle, and horses in small-town Missouri. I helped care for our dogs, cats, 3 horses, and a small herd of cattle, as well as the occasional bottle calf. As a result, I am no stranger to the hard work that can go into caring for a multitude of animals. I adopted my first dog 8 years ago and began fostering dogs around the same time. While fostering dogs through both Columbia Second Chance and the Central Missouri Humane Society and discovered I had a knack, and passion, for working with "problem dogs". Throughout my time fostering, I worked with dog-aggressive dogs, human-aggressive dogs, and fearful dogs. My own dog came to me as a wild, young thing, and he is now a certified Canine Good Citizen! I've had ample opportunity to gain valuable experience over the past 5 years of pet sitting and hundreds of stays. If you choose me to take care of your pet, I promise to treat him or her just like I would my own and send him or her back to you tired and happy! I also have experience with providing medication to dogs and cats and am entirely comfortable doing so. BOARDING SERVICES: The benefit of boarding in Ashland, Missouri is that your dog will get the benefit of a low-stress country environment and an oversized backyard. I accept all breeds in my home and will take meet and greets with dogs of all sizes. I do recognize, however, that medium and large breed dogs fit better with my pack, but I'll give the smaller dogs a chance to keep up.
Reviews
Kayla was so awesome and my two dogs really loved spending the weekend with her. She made me feel so comfortable leaving my babies with her. She provided updates and photos any time that I asked. This was our first experience with her and this definitely won’t be the last. If you choose her for any of her services, you will not be disappointed!
We absolutely love having Kayla watch our dogs! They come home exhausted every time, and she always sends the best pictures.
Always appreciate being able to leave our dog with Kayla when we are out of town!
Kayla's home fit our dog's needs perfectly. Lady loves to spend time outside and to play with other dogs. Kayla knows how to manage dog behavior and make them very happy. It was so much better than being in a kennel setting. Lady enjoyed her new dog buddy, the couch, and Kayla's attention so much we wondered if she would want to come home! Kayla's photos were so reassuring, especially since Lady had a two week stay. I am sure Lady will be happy to go back to see Kayla and her dogs!

I have a fully fenced yard and two personal dogs who have been foster brothers to all types of dog friends and have been involved with my boarding business for the last 3 years. I have baby gates and crates and can easily and safely separate a dog who is causing problems with the rest of the pack. Baby gates are also used to slowly and safely introduce new dogs to each other.

Information Kayla W. would like to know about your pet
As I said in my About Me, I do have experience working with difficult dogs, and I am willing to do so. However, I need to know about any issues beforehand, so that I can be prepared and not caught off guard. Does your pet have any behavioral issues? What is the longest period of time that your pet can be left alone? Is your dog crate trained? Does your pet have any medical issues, including allergies? Does he or she require medications? Are your pet(s) up to date on their vaccinations, especially rabies? Are your pets on flea and tick preventative? If so, what brand? Are your dogs on heartworm preventative? If so, what brand?
A typical day
All dogs (guest and personal dogs) are separated for all meals to prevent any scuffles. Dogs boarded at my home will have ample time to hang out and play (or even just sunbathe) in my oversized, fully-fenced backyard throughout the day. Generally, I find that the constant play-time with other dogs exhausts about 95% of my boarders, and walks are generally not needed. It's like living at a dog park!

I do work a regular full-time job, so I am primarily a weekend boarder. I do require that dogs be crate trained until they can settle into my home and be trusted loose. Even if they are non-destructive in your home, a new setting and the insecurity that comes with that can cause dogs to act out. I am home all day on most weekends and can make sure your pup is fully exercised by the time you get home from your trip (or staycation). Meet and greets are offered after 5 PM on weekdays or can be scheduled with more flexibility on weekends. Pick up and drop off times are flexible on weekends. If you are dropping off or picking up on a weekday, those must be scheduled before 8 AM or after 5 PM.
