dog lover ready to snuggle

Pet care experience

I have always loved dogs, and love meeting and caring for new canine friends. Having grown up with animals, I have quite a bit of experience taking care of my own and family members' dogs. My own dog, Bella, is a miniature pincher mix (we think) and a testament to my love for all dogs large and small. She's my baby. I have been taking care of Bella for the entire time we've had her, and I have a lot of experience with dogs in general. Thank you for the opportunity to take care of and entertain your precious pup! I am excited to meet and walk all sorts of dogs of all shapes and sizes. Get in touch to set up an appointment to meet and get to know each other!

Ok - it has taken me a long time to come up with the words to say regarding Kayla's stay with my two dogs. My normal sitter ended up having something come up and I needed to find a sitter for the first couple of days I was going to be out of the country. Kayla came over and did a meet and greet with my two dogs Jase and Brody and I felt very at ease. She spent over an hour talking with me and playing with the dogs while learning their routines. I was put at ease seeing how well my dogs, Jase especially took to Kayla. I went through everything with her and even left a list outlining everything. Come to day 1, I get a call when I land for one of my layovers and she is locked out of the house with the dogs. I told her a way to get back in since the spare key was not where it was supposed to be. That solved that problem. Well - the next day, my husband and I got several texts from one of our neighbors concerned that both of our dogs were howling and his son could hear them across the street. (My dogs don't normally howl unless they try to mimic a fire truck). That was a concern for me... the time he texted me and the time she claimed she was there with them (to feed them) before leaving to go to dinner didn't match up and the neighbor told me no one was in the driveway except for my husband's truck. When she arrived back at my house, she sent pictures of the dogs and they seemed ok so I let my concerns go. The next morning (Thursday) she texted me to check in and said everything was great. Well, a few hours later I got a text telling me I needed to get the other sitter (who was replacing her on Friday morning) there as soon as possible and that my dog has no training and he's been horrible and has no recall (he is trained) and that he had "knocked" her over twice to get to my cat who he spends a lot of time playing with. He has never knocked anyone over, let alone someone of her stature. He ended up getting outside and getting into a scuffle with one of my neighbors dogs. My neighbor had to pull the dogs apart and he threatened to "bury" both my dog and Kayla. I told Kayla if that was the case to call the police and get a report on file. When the police came, my neighbor had cuts on his hand from pulling the dogs apart and animal control had to then get involved to make sure the dogs were vaccinated, etc. After speaking with my neighbor upon returning from my trip, he told us that was the 3rd time THAT day that Brody got out and he was fed up as she didn't even bring a leash with her to try to get Brody. Brody ran right into the arms of my neighbor which concerned him as a dog trainer that something was wrong. She did not help to try and separate the dogs and watched as a 60 year old man jumped a fence to pull them apart. Luckily, my neighbor did not want to press charges and Brody just needed to do 10 days of quarantine. I had my other sitter go check in on Brody and Jase immediately after the incident happened as they are comfortable with her and wanted her to calm them down. Kayla says she looked Brody over and saw no cuts or scrapes on him. When my other sitter got there, the first thing she noticed was a big cut above Brody's left eye and sent me a picture. She could see both dogs were visibly shaken and scared to be around her. When my normal sitter left to go to work (to return to watch the dogs for the rest of out trip the next day) Brody screamed and didn't want her to leave. I got a call from the police and animal control and had to meet with them when I got home. Once the police left, Kayla crated my dogs and went to her apartment 20-25 min away to "get some stuff" (even though she was leaving the next morning. Never in my life would I crate two dogs who just went through something like that and then leave the house no matter how anxious I was feeling. I laid every single incident out for Kayla before hiring her and it seemed she didn't follow any instructions and tried to blame my dog who is very well behaved for her shortcomings as a dog sitter. Upon leaving, she claimed she left my key on the counter but had left a teddy bear there so was planning on meeting the other sitter at my house later to retrieve it. Well, when my new sitter got there, there was no key and no teddy bear. Kayla went in through the bulkhead in my basement (since she claimed she left the key inside... she did not) and left my basement and bulkhead doors open to all of the elements and we ended up getting a bad rain storm that flooded into my basement. (locks also needed to be changed since I never received my key back). Rover will pay damages. When the new sitter got there, Jase's crate had dried up feces (days old) in it and on the floor next to his crate. He is 100% house trained. My house smelt and the sitter later found out that a blanket was completely saturated in urine. She also found feces in my bedroom and Jase began to regress having accidents all over the house due to stress and neglect. Over the next couple of days, my dogs slowly began to get back to normal while in the presence of their normal sitter but this is an experience I NEVER in my life expected of someone. It just goes to show that people are not always as they seem and do not always have your dogs best interest at heart. Cruel is the only word I can think of to describe this sitter. I hope no one ever has to go through what my dogs went through and I will NEVER use Rover again. My dogs are rescues and Jase (the one who regressed) was abused as a puppy and now he has gone through it again. If you don't think you can handle something, simply say No. Do not ever blame two innocent dogs for your issue. It would be in your best interest to scroll past when looking for a dog sitter. If I could give zero or negative stars, I would.

For a person that was unsure and nervous about leaving my dogs for the first time ever, Kayla Mary made the experience amazing. She went above and beyond with our dogs! She gave pictures and updated me throughout the day. Will be booking with her again as soon as we need her! She is simply the best.
