Kayla kept me informed on everything while I was gone. She sent daily photos and updates on my dog Deuce. When I came home he was happy and healthy!

I’m extremely frustrated and disheartened that I naively trusted Kayla and left my pets in the wrong hands. I had Kayla as a house sitter for my 11 year old senior dog and a cat in my apartment over the weekend (Friday to Sunday), from Sept 30 to Oct 2. The issues I had were: She was simply not there. No overnight stay, or any extended stay during the day that could be constituted as house sitting. As I was becoming more concerned with her lack of communication, I checked on the pet camera pretty much every hour for Saturday and Sunday. I never once saw her. My dog was left alone in the dark. Seeing him alone on the couch in the dark for hours - for two days in a row, absolutely broke my heart. My dog was starved. The raw food that should have been gone if my dog was fed correctly, twice a day, was only half gone. On Sunday, she fed him dinner around 9:30PM only when I was pulling into my apartment. She did not scoop up my cat’s litter box. She brought an unknown male into my residence. She also had used my shot glass (it was sitting in my drying rack). It would’ve been fine with me as long as she did her job, but given the lack of care she’s shown, I can’t help but feel taken aback. She did not apologize or provide any explanation when I asked her questions about how my pets were cared for. On Sunday night, as I was getting off the elevator, I ran into her and the said unknown male taking my dog out for a walk. I asked her questions about her absence, in case she had a valid reason or any slightly excusable explanations. What was most shocking was her response. She simply told me that I could leave her a negative review. She was very nonchalant about it, almost condescending, which was a clear contrast from how she presented herself in the beginning as a bubbly and friendly pet loving girl. Then I knew immediately that she did not care about my pets at all and that there was no point talking with her any longer. I’ve been a good Rover customer for years now. I’ve only had positive experiences so far so I generally trust my sitters and am lenient on them. I also believed the positive reviews she had. I won’t say that those reviews are fake or those owners were all lied to. I’m sure she was a great sitter for some of them. But I’m not sure about her consistency or reliability because it is obvious that, if for some reasons she doesn’t feel like doing her job, she is perfectly fine neglecting the animals in her care and purposely providing misleading or false updates to the owner. Now that I know what happened, I wish I was more strict with her as the owner. I should have asked her for more frequent updates, with photos or videos. I should have had my camera auto-record so I have a way to hold her accountable. But I did not. I hope you don’t make the same mistake.
