Kindhearted lifelong animal lover

Pet care experience

From the age at which I was first able to form words, I begged my parents for a puppy. At seven years old in 2000, I finally got my first pet- while looking at puppies, I ended up falling in love with a cat! Thus began my unending love affair with all creatures great and small. I don’t believe I’ve ever met one I didn’t like! We later got our first dog when I was 9, a rescue collie, completing my transformation into being fully ambi-pets-trous. I began pet sitting alongside babysitting at 13. Since then, I’ve cared for big dogs and tiny dogs, puppies and seniors, an increasingly eclectic variety of cats and kittens, and even reptiles. I have experience with animals with a variety of health conditions and medications as well- ear drops, eye drops, liquid medicine, pills, etc. I love to play with and cuddle pets- I’ll even go running with the ones with extra energy to burn! I’m also not afraid to correct negative behaviors in a kind and constructive way. For example, I’ve been helping raise my mother’s new puppy lately. When I’m with her, I always keep a close eye on what she’s doing. If she does something naughty, I give her a firm NO and redirect her considerable energy to something that’s allowed. Of course I’m also happy to follow any training protocols you may outline, within reason (I won’t hit or yell at the animal, or mistreat them in any way). I believe every animal is special, and I look forward to meeting your pet!

Kayla has been the best thing to ever happen to my doggies and myself. She has an enormous amount of patience for shy dogs, like my Ivy, because she believes in every dog. She loved on each one of them equally and independently. My Winter is playful and loves to play fetch and she was happy to please him. My Ivy came around just because she showed her nothing but love. I will definitely be keeping her as a part of our family and our dedicated Pet Sitter. Thank you so so much Kayla for making this experience so pleasant.

Kayla has cared for my two dogs on a regular basis. She not only makes sure that all of their needs are met, but she also genuinely loves them. My dogs are always happy and excited to see Kayla, and the natural connection Kayla has with pets is easy to see.

Safety, trust & environment

I have a clean and furnished living area in my basement where family members often stay. If I am boarding a pet, I would stay down there with them. There are five cats living in the rest of the house, and sometimes my mom brings her dogs over, so whether they would spend time upstairs with the other animals would be dependent on their temperament and whether they would be able to get along, and your permission. I would never leave your pet with my pets unsupervised, for the sake of everyone’s safety, and any introductions would be carefully controlled. I also would not leave your pet in the basement alone. I do not have a fence, but I don’t mind spending a significant amount of time with them leashed outside. I have a large backyard and a lot of walking space around the neighborhood.

Information Kayla B. would like to know about your pet

Please let me know whether your dog is comfortable around other cats and/or dogs, and whether you’d want them around my cats and potential visiting dogs. I can accommodate either way. I would prefer not to take animals with major aggression issues, but some sensitivities or special needs are fine as long as you let me know how to work with them.

A typical day

I love to play with your pet in the way they most enjoy. Tug of war, fetch, laser pointers, teaser toys, running, and exploring the neighborhood and my large backyard on leash are all on the table, and I’m happy to try other things too. And of course we can also just sit together when that’s what they’d prefer.
