Pet care experience
I have owned dogs and cats my entire life. I grew up with a dog and cats and when I moved out on my own at 23 I had first one dog and then two. I have never gone more than a few months without owning a dog. We also have 3 cats, aged 10, 10, and 14. I have attended many dog obedience classes over the years and have successfully trained every one of my dogs to be really great pets. I recently completed a pet first aid course as well. I adore all animals and love taking my dogs for walks (we used to run but now they are too old!). Working from home gives me the flexibility to take them out several times a day and they are rarely ever left alone. I am also a volunteer with a cat rescue and have fostered many cats and kittens over the past two years. We even fostered 3 feral cats that eventually became sweet, loving family pets. My previous dog, Tessa, who was a shepherd/collie mix had a condition called megasophagus which meant her throat was kind of like a balloon and would stretch whenever she ate. This caused her to throw up most of her meals prior to diagnosis. Once I found out what the issue was we modified her eating by grinding up her food and mixing it with water. We had her eat standing on her hind legs and after every meal we would sit her on our laps and "burp" her until we heard her food go down (you could hear the gulp when the food slid past the "balloon" in her throat). We did this until the day she passed away and she far exceeded her life expectancy of 1-2 years. I have been looking after friends and neighbours pets for approximately 6 years and would be happy to provide references. I work full time from home and I am able to fit walks in several times a day, morning, noon, and evenings. I can work wherever I have an internet connection which gives me a lot of flexibility! I have a large deck with stairs that lead to a small fenced in area that the dogs are free to use and enjoy. I love taking dogs for walks on the trail that runs behind my home or around the neighbourhood (depending on the season and how bad the bugs are!). I have two Tractive pet trackers with subscription that I attach to the collars of the dogs that board with me. In the unlikely event that a dog gets loose I will be able to track their location through an app on my phone. I have one very friendly, senior dog that is great with both cats and dogs. Pets are treated like family when they stay with me.
Reviews
Last week our dog Duke had his first time away from us for 2 nights with Katrien . We were skeptical to leave him with someone he didn’t know, but from our first meeting appt we knew he would be in great hands. Katrien kept me posted with pics and messages during his stay. He came back as happy as could be . We are very happy and definitely use Katrien again .
Katrien was great with our dog, was very flexible with our work schedule.
We were very lucky to find Katrien on Rover and she accepted our day care request right away. Katrien took Lily for long walk with her other dogs, sent us pictures and updates. She made sure Lily ate her dinner and was happy all the time playing with other dogs. Lily had great time and we were very comfortable to leave her for evening. Thank you Katrien! Highly recommended to other dog owners in need of doggy care
Theo had the best time!! Highly highly recommend!

Information Katrien M. would like to know about your pet
It's important to know if the dog is good with other dogs. I also want to know how they are with smaller animals such as cats. I cannot accept dogs that are aggressive or unsocialized and therefore fearful of strangers. I want to know how well trained they are and how their recall is or how well they walk on a leash. I need to know what food they are allowed (for example treats that they are allowed) and any allergies they might have. It's also important for me to know if the dog is spayed/neutered. All dogs must have up to date rabies shots, be healthy and free of fleas or ticks.
A typical day
I will provide 30 minute walks at least twice a day. We have the Caledon trail where we can go for long walks each day depending on the season! For younger dogs I will take them out for frequent pee breaks every couple of hours. My own dogs get two meals a day and usually a treat sometime during the day. I can follow whatever feeding schedule your dog is accustomed to.
