Sitting since 12 yrs, training 15!

Pet care experience

I’ve worked at humane societies and taken care of my family’s pets since I was little, and I branched out to strangers’ as soon as I was old enough. I’ve always had a love for animals, and taking care of them is one of my favorite ways to practice that! I’m currently in college for Animal Science and have been riding horses since I was seven. I am pursuing a career in horse training but have learned about many different livestock animals, such as cows, pigs, sheep, goats, and chickens. I own chickens myself and will have goats fairly soon. I will gladly take care of these more “exotic” animals! I have experience in sitting and caring for dogs (including puppies), cats, and horses. I also walk dogs and ride and train horses. I've had three cats since I was old enough to care for them (I personally own one currently, who lives with me in college) and cared for over a dozen. I haven’t owned my own dog (my dorm room is quite small haha) but my relatives have owned them for my entire lifetime and I definitely plan on getting (at least) one when I have the space! I also have experience in training. For dogs, I can stop leash pulling, door/doorbell reactivity, jumping, mouthing, running out the door, dog reactivity, not waiting for food bowls to be set down, not paying attention to you on walks, and much more! All you have to do is ask :) (I will likely do some basic training if your dog jumps on me a lot, or on walks if they pull excessively or are dog reactive. This is for my own comfort and safety, and these very short sessions are not meant to completely change the behavior or be difficult for the dog).

Katlin was a FANTASTIC drop-in person for Lucy and our cats. She provided tons of feedback and gave an exceptional visit, but best of all gave me HUGE peace-of-mind during my long work days. So, so, so grateful!

Katlin was so sweet with our cat. She took good care of her while we were away by giving her lots of attention and treats. Communication was great, she was quick to give updates and let me know how Lucy was doing. I highly recommend Katlin.

BEWARE We went to rebook her. We had agreed on 2 visits for $75.48 that I paid yesterday to rebook her. Today she messages me telling me the times don’t work, so she edited the times only and that I should accept the changes. She flat out lied to me, changed the times, but also the PRICE without my consent and I was charged and additional $28.86 fraudulently by her!! She clearly has gotten away or thought she could get away with this. You fraudulently messed with the wrong person ma’am. Do not recommend, clearly she is untrustworthy.

I STRONGLY believe in the use of ethical and safe pet handling practices. This means that while I will be willing to use your preferred equipment, including aversive types like prong collars, they will ONLY be used properly as they are designed to be and NEVER in a way that will harm the animal. I will NOT use anything inherently harmful (such as electric shock devices, for example). I will NEVER FORCE any animal into something (including cages/kennels), but I will help work with them if they are scared of something or simply need some help. I have experience with and am perfectly willing to administer MEDICATIONS if they are prescribed. (However, I will not pin an animal down to do so. If this must happen with your pet you should let me know). My GOAL is to keep them as HAPPY and HEALTHY as possible, while keeping in mind owner SAFETY. (This is important to me as I have seen too many owners disregard dangerous pet behaviors. The animal must be happy, but you also have to be safe!) I am willing to crate animals when needed and will use leashes/harnesses when in unfenced areas but will always try to make sure they have lots of FREE TIME when I’m there to watch them. (This includes time outside if you have a fenced backyard). I think EVERY animal deserves a safe, healthy, and happy environment to live in, and I will do my absolute best to uphold that!

Information Katlin F. would like to know about your pet

- presence of aggression - reactivity - any possibly dangerous habits - any training requested - any budget constrictions or payment negotiations (Details on each below) I will not walk aggressive dogs! There have been way too many times this has caused unnecessary danger to all parties. If your dog is truly aggressive, a specialized trainer is a better option than asking a Rover sitter to attempt to handle it for you, no matter how experienced they may be. (Please help me keep myself and other sitters safe!) However, if your dog is reactive but not dangerously so, I can work with you on fixing that behavior. Sometimes it simply takes teaching the dog to pay attention to the owner on walks. Sometimes it may help to teach the dog to sit next to you as the other dog passes. If it is a bigger problem than I can fix, I will let you know exactly what happened and recommend next steps based on the specific issue. (This usually means finding a trainer specializing in the problem, as they often have the right resources to make real progress with your pet). Any possibly dangerous habits to me or the animal (trying to escape the house, non-aggressive mouthing, food issues, etc) must be transparently explained. Most can be handled just fine, but please remember that I don’t know your pets like you do! (I’d like to know this information before I end up in a bad situation, for both your pet’s safety and my own). If you’d like any basic training, including puppy training (house training, learning how to go up/down stairs, basic commands, crate training, etc.), let me know. I will be happy to help! Possible training services I provide include: - leash/harness pulling on walks - jumping up on visitors - crate training - house/potty training - basic commands (i.e. sit, lay down, stay) - sitting still for putting harness/collar/leash on - walking next to you (commonly called “heel”) - reactivity to doorbells/knocking - attempting to escape (usually out the front door) - waiting for a food bowl to be set down before eating (This is not an exhaustive list. Ask if you need something else!) FINAL NOTE: Aggression towards me, other people, or other animals will NOT be tolerated. !!!! If you do not tell me about aggressive behavior, and something happens, your booking will be immediately cancelled and NOT refunded !!!! PLEASE help keep me, yourself, your animals, and other sitters and pet owners SAFE! Professional trainers know how to handle aggressive animals and can do so in a controlled environment. This is a much safer (and more effective) option. (I understand they can be expensive! However, I really don’t want to see any animals or people get hurt. Please try to find a safe way to help your pet.) In addition, all payments CAN be negotiated! If you cannot afford something and want to work something out, please let me know. I will be happy to try to work with your budget! (If your pet proves to be exceptionally difficult to handle you may be upcharged for the next booking, although this almost never happens. But, I often give discounts to very well-behaved pets! If you have put the proper amount of time and effort into your pet, I WILL notice, and you will likely get reduced rates for future bookings!)

A typical day

- Walks, on a specific route or random depending on owner preference - Time at parks if nearby on walks (not dog parks, just normal parks. Dog parks have been proven to be dangerous rather than beneficial) - Short jogs if requested - Games (outdoor or indoor) and toys - Agility if your pet is so inclined (I find lots of dogs love this much more than simple walks!) - Treat/kibble games (i.e. puzzle toys, searching in a blanket, etc) - Cuddles if your pet is a snugglebug :) - Plenty of pets and attention! - Training if necessary/requested (I strive to make training fun for the animal as it is proven to work better if it is less stressful and positively enforced)

Availability

As a student at UW-River Falls, I am in classes throughout the daytime. I can drop in or provide walks any weekday (between classes or after they end for the day) and house sit on weekends. I cannot sit on weekdays unless I don’t have to stay overnight/all day, as I have to get to my morning classes and will not be able to stay with your pet all hours of the day. I am sorry for this, but my college schooling is important to me! My general availability usually excludes my winter break from the end of December until late January, spring break for a week in March (the exact dates change every year) and summer break from early to mid-May until the end of August, as I often go home for this time. Occasionally I stick around, especially through the end of November for Thanksgiving break or some summers, but it is not guaranteed unless I confirm with you/my calendar. (As I live in a dorm, unfortunately I cannot provide boarding/daycare at this time).
