Countryside home, with rescue & foster experience

Pet care experience

**Get £15 off your first booking with the code KATIE87093** *Currently offering drop ins only* Hi, I'm Katie. I'm 36 and I live in a lovely hamlet in the countryside near Tiverton. I grew up on a farm and have always had a lot of animals in my life. My partner and I have 3 beautiful rescue dogs and 3 cats and I can’t imagine a world without them. We live in a spacious detached house in the countryside with a large fenced garden and a 4 acre secure field. We also have lovely footpaths right outside our door which are beautiful and full of smells for dogs to enjoy! I’ve recently started a dog behaviour degree following my fostering and rescue work and hope this is something that will help me to support other dogs in future. For work, I’m a n animal care assistant in rescue and was previously a qualified nurse. I also run a natural dog treat business on the side called Bark & Bramble. It’s fair to say every day revolves around dogs in a variety of ways! I work 3 shifts per week but my partner works from home so the animals are never alone. We are able to walk in the mornings or go to the field, have a shorter lunchtime walk and a longer one again in the evening. We also enjoy playing enrichment games and using our dogs sense of smell to help them learn and relax, but we equally love curling up on the sofa in front of the fire, especially with it being so cold lately! We’re super flexible though, and we will happily accommodate your pets’ needs and routine. Our pups are pretty laid back and happy to go along with what we’re doing on the day. We have a securely fenced garden and dogs will always be supervised. Our dogs are friendly and love playing with others, and we always ensure dogs have an introductory walk up the lane when the visitor arrives. This helps them to learn about each other and become friends as they would do naturally. We have experience of reactive and anxious dogs through both fostering and personal experience (ours were badly treated and are anxious of new people) so we are patient, calm and adaptable to their needs. There is always a quiet room and a covered crate for anyone that needs it, and they can have the level of attention that suits them. Aside from the dogs, we have 3 cats, 2 rabbits and an Axolotl. The cats are good with dogs and they’re used to having the odd foster cat join us too. They have their own place to go to when they want space, and any cat staying with us would have their own room to go to with a cat tower, tray and food. We have tall dog gates on the lounge to keep the dogs and cats separate if needed. I’ve had a lot of experience with smaller pets including rabbits, hamsters, mice, rats and chickens, as well as many larger animals on the farm. So whatever pet you have and whatever their needs are, I’ll do my best to make them feel more happy and secure if you’re busy or on holiday. I know it can be a stressful time for all of you. If I go to your home to help out, I will treat your animals and home as respectfully as my own. I find it hard to trust others with my furry family so I’m always conscious of personalising care and doing the very best I can to support you and your pets. I’m always happy to stay in touch with texts, calls and photos. Whatever you need to put your mind at ease. If you need any help with watering plants, post, or anything similar, I'm happy to do this on home visits too. Kate x Services: Day Care - Includes 2 walks which can vary in length depending on your dogs needs and can include a trip to our secure dog field. There will be play time and plenty of attention. Dogs are welcome to join us on the sofa or lounge in front of the fire. They are always welcome to try some of my natural treats and I'm happy to support you with basic training and tricks! Boarding - Same as day care by day. At night your dog can either stay in the lounge with Pluto and Luna or have their own space - we're happy to be flexible. We have 3 sofas and we tend to find they get one each so they can really spread out! Their personal crates and bedding are always welcome to make them feel more settled. Home visits - Each visit will be at least 30mins. I can let dogs/cats out, feed, water, change trays, give medication, water plants, tend to small pets, bring in post, turn lights on/off, close curtains, anything you need. Time can be flexible. Dog Walking - I'm happy to travel around the Tiverton/Witheridge/Bampton/Silverton area for dog walking. The walk can be tailored to your dog, whether that's a slow and steady plod around, an off road adventure somewhere new, or something more quiet for an anxious dog. If you have a puppy I can do short walks to suit their development and ensure they don't over exert their joints. We've had a lab with hip dysplasia, so we're always aware that each dog will have different requirements. My dogs stay on lead unless they're in a secure field but I'm happy to have your dog off lead if that's what they're most comfortable with and have good recall. Let me know if your dog has a favourite ball, toy or treats to take on their adventure too! Dog walking price is per hour. If your dog only requires 30mins I'm happy to spend some time with them before or after their walk - if they want cuddles, a game, or a treat, let me know :) Dog Sitting - The start time can be arranged with you but this would normally be around 6pm-10am the next morning. This would include an evening and morning walk, feeds, and anything else needed for other pets. If you need me to do anything to look after your home while you're away, don't hesitate to get in touch. Qualifications and Experience: Animal Care Assistant in rescue Registered Nurse - Achieved a 1st Level 5 degree in Dog Behaviour - In progress Psychology Bsc (including animal behaviour) - 2:1 Worked for a foreign rescue Fostered both dogs and cats - some very anxious, some with training and health needs. I run my own natural dog treat business - Bark & Bramble. Good understanding of health and nutrition. Currently setting up a secure dog field and sensory garden. I am DBS checked and have public liability insurance. I have a clean driving license and a car with dog seat belts. A crate can be used if required. If you have any questions at all, please pop me a message! You can get £15 off your first booking with the code KATIE87093

Katie looked after our cat Arty for a week whilst we were away on holiday and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her. She took good care of him with lots of cuddles and gave me regular updates (with photos), so that I knew he was doing ok. Having Katie look after Arty massively reduced my anxiety about going away and was a much nicer option for him than going to the cattery. Thank you Katie!!

Katie is so lovely and absolutely fantastic with dogs! She is a trained behaviouralist and has experience in dog reactivity. She has three beautiful rescues of her own, all Romanian rescues just like my Biffy so she really understands their specific needs and quirks. X

Katie is absolutely amazing and super responsible. Her love and care for pets it’s unmeasurable, she’s a strong believer in free force and I can assure your pets will be safe and happy with her around. I will trust her to take care of any of my 4 pets without a second thought. She’s also very experienced with anxious/ fearful foreign rescues which is a bonus. If you need anyone to look after your pets don’t hesitate in contact Katie. Joana

Information Katie R. would like to know about your pet

- Their daily routine - Any likes and dislikes/anxieties - How is their recall? Do they need to be on or off lead? - Do they have any dietary or health requirements? - Do they have a favourite place to go? - Who is their vet? - Is there anything they are currently working on - training etc - Do you have any boundaries in place that we need to be consistent with? - Do they need to be groomed if they're staying with us?

A typical day

Our general routine here starts with an early morning walk followed by a play in the garden. Usually the dogs will be doing zoomies and playing chase through the tunnels they've created, or running around with their toys. Everyone has breakfast and the dogs settle down on the sofas for their morning nap. Sometimes we make breakfast more fun by scatter feeding in the garden. They absolutely love using their nose to find their food and it's also really calming for them! We usually go out again around lunch time. This could be a walk, a trip to the field, or some enrichment games. The dogs have dinner at around 5pm and go out again. We usually settle down in front of the fire after this and the dogs get a toy or natural treat to chew on. They go out in the garden for a late evening wee and sleep peacefully through the night. Some days/weekends we drive somewhere for a longer walk and explore which we all enjoy equally! We especially love going to forests and moorland.
