It’s all about the dogs here!

Pet care experience

My life is for the dogs! I am a full time dog foster mom with 6 years of experience working professionally with animals in a variety of settings including doggy daycare, boarding, veterinary medicine, and training. I am well versed in dog behavior and body language, giving me a strong insight to your pup’s perspective. I have fostered over 70 dogs (and counting) from a variety of settings- including rehabbing puppy mill mammas, fear reactive dogs, hyper puppies, dogs from high intake shelters, and owner surrenders. I enjoy working with all breeds of dogs and making the day about them. Walks in the neighborhood, hikes in the woods, fetch in the yard, chasing the flirt pole, or a cuddle session in the house- whichever is your pet’s favorite activity! I believe physical exercise and mental enrichment are key to a happy, well behaved pup. This being said, we love puzzle games, food dispensing toys, training sessions, and exercise sessions. My true passion is dog behavior. I love working with dogs to build confidence and a stronger relationship between pet and handler. I have worked with a variety of behavioral issues from retired puppy mill breeding dogs who literally cannot walk in a straight line to dogs with reactivity issues preventing them from remaining calm and on four feet. I believe in a reward and games based training style, while also managing the environment and setting boundaries. I have experience working in both positive based and balanced training facilities. If you are hoping for extra training for your pup, I would love to help out! Just send me a message and we can chat about your goals for your pup.

Katie was great caring for my anxious cat for two weeks! She left thorough check-in notes and took surprisingly great photos while visiting. Reliable, friendly, and punctual. Will definitely work with her again!

Katie is AN AMAZING sitter. I’m very selective over who watches my babes and she did an excellent job keeping me up to date. Sent pictures. And my boys love her! I will definitely book again!

Information Katie L. would like to know about your pet

Crate trained? All the non-permanent dogs sleep in their crates at night (fosters / boarders). They will also be in the crate during work hours (We work Monday-Friday, but my boyfriend works from home so can let them out frequently for potty breaks). What types of dog-dog interactions has your dog had? I am well versed in integrating dogs into the household, and we successfully keep dogs separated if that is the best situation, but it is very helpful to know the dog’s social history if possible. No breed preferences. All dogs are welcome here.

A typical day

We live in a low traffic neighborhood near an empty field. This is perfect for walking dogs who may be fearful or reactive. On walks we encourage sniffing and will bring along high value treats for training opportunities. Our backyard is fully fenced in with a six foot privacy fence. The dogs go outside very often (weather permitting) to run around. Dog friendly dogs who wish to engage in playgroup with the house dogs are more than welcome, but we will not push a dog past his/her comfort level. (We do introductions slowly and assess each dog individually). For single dog play, we have lots of toys including any fetch toy imaginable and a flirt pole.
