I truly think I was put on this earth to care for animals. Though I have a career as an elementary music teacher, I try to spend as much of my time around animals as I can. From the age of 7, I was caring for neighbors and friends pets. Our precious Golden Retriever, Dalilah, had puppies when I was 11 and I was their primary caregiver/wrangler. It was one of the best summers of my life! I even took a class by the American Red Cross about emergency pet care. My family had a farm, and so we always took in whatever stray cat or dog made their way to us. As a teenager, I did a lot of overnight pet sitting for friends and family. My husband and I currently have an 8 year old Newfoundland named Missy, who we adopted through a Newfoundland rescue group. We have also fostered 5 dogs with the Southeast Newfoundland Rescue. We also have two cats who were rescued from the Humane Society. Both Missy and our fosters have had somewhat complex medical and behavioral issues, so I am comfortable and experienced with dogs who need extra attention and care. My husband and I, along with our 3 1/2 year old son, have a large fenced in backyard. We have several neighbors whose dogs we keep when they are out of town. Missy gets along well with all of them! They wear her and our son out which is a win-win! Though I have the most experience with dogs and cats, I am happy and content around any and all animals.
