This was our first time finding a pet sitter through Rover and we were nervous! Katherine made everything a breeze from start to finish. All 5 of fur kids loved her and she even won over older girl that is more hesitant to new people. The constant updates put a worried mom at ease as welll! Overall, we are so thankful and happy we found Katherine!

Safety, trust & environment

I am happy to cater to the needs, requests, and desires of any pet owner and pet. I will follow all directions provided, no matter how elaborate. I love to learn from all of our four-legged friend: from the face-lickers and the aggressive cuddlers to the destructive and standoffish, they all need to potty, and I have thumbs that can open a back door or scoop a litter box. If not otherwise specified, my general dog sitting and drop-in visits look as follows ~ DOG HOUSE SITTING: - Able-bodied adult pets + two feedings per day as fits their size and provided food recommendations; + let pets out into your yard (if available) at least five times per day, at no more than 4 hour intervals (excepting 8 hours for me sleeping once per night); + if requested, walk dogs for at least 15 minutes per day (or more if no yard to relieve themselves), and + play with them for at least 1 hour total per day, if they are amenable to play.* - Specially-abled pets or pets with limitations will be let out to be relieved more often if needed, and walked or played with less if their energy limits them. - Puppies (under 2 years of age) will be relieved every two hours during the day and as much as needed overnight; and fed three times per day. They will be played with for at least two hours per day, split into short 5-15 minute sessions. Potty training happily included, free of charge, if desired! *Play can involve: attentive petting, catch, tug with a toy, playful and safe chasing and/or wrestling, tricks-for-treats training. Treat training will stay within healthy daily limits of treats and overall calories, or utilize their daily food as a reward. "Tricks" can also be desired behaviors that you'd like me to reinforce! DOG DROP-IN VISITS: - On arrival, I will greet the pup in whatever way they like, if they like; talk at/with them, wiggle pets. - Dogs will then be let out into the fenced yard, or leashed up and walked. - any other care requested such as feeding, refilling water dish will be done. - the rest of the 30 or 60 minutes will be filled with play (if they are willing; see play "*" above), and typing up and taking pictures for the Rover card update to you! - a short extra chance to potty is usually provided at the end of the drop-in, especially if the first outing was short due to heat/weather conditions or another reason. CAT CARE: - Litter boxes will be cleaned every other day for single kitties, and once a day (or more if needed) for multiple cats. - Food - wet and/or kibble - will be served however requested, either keeping "free fed" bowls topped off, or at specific times and amounts. - I will play with them, with whatever toys or in whatever ways they seem to enjoy, and/or provide plenty of pets. - I will type an update and take photos to include in it, which you will recieve at the end of the visit! OTHER PETS: - I am more than willing to learn how to care for your pets that are not explicitly listed such as birds, snakes and other reptiles, horses, livestock up to and including cows, and aquariums. TRUST :) 3/5 of Rover clients have rebooked my services at least once, and also more than half of clients have left at least one formal review. (Stats updated/as of Feb 16, 2024.) Genuine feedback of any kind is always very appreciated! I hope and work towards clients always finding me to be excellent, and strive to follow the golden rule: treat others how I would like to be treated. This extends to you, and your family - furry and otherwise!

Information Katherine W. would like to know about your pet

Let me know as much as you'd like prior to a visit. Critical bits of info can include: any special needs; medications and their dosages; any behaviors that may be alarming at first occurrence for someone unfamiliar with the pet, even if ultimately harmless. For example, your cat likes to hang from the curtains while watching birds and you're ok with it, so long as it's the red curtains in the living room? I'm happy to let them enjoy the view. Though Rover considers a dog no longer a puppy at one year old, I consider all dogs under 2 years old to be a puppy and they will be cared for, and charged for, accordingly. No exceptions for dogs age 1 year and 5 months or less.

A typical day

DOG HOUSE SITTING: On first waking up, the dogs get let out to potty. If there is no fenced in yard, then a walk instead. If they don't have specific eating times, I will often give "breakfast" an hour or two later. Walks and/or letting out into the yard will be every 3-4 hours throughout the day. If there is a yard and walks are also requested, a [usually late morning or late afternoon] potty time will be "upgraded" to a 15-minute walk. In the late afternoon, play time! Tug of war in the yard, playful "singing" in the living room if they like to bark, or cuddles all day while I watch a tv show or play a handheld game. Play time is usually best right after a walk, and with breaks if the play is high energy. In absence of specified mealtimes, "dinner" is served 8-12 hours after breakfast was served: early enough to let stomachs settle before bed time and late enough to minimize bloat/ let breakfast be mostly digested. A final potty break - as long as is needed - is provided right before bed time. (Extra breaks provided during the night if/as needed by the pets.) Unless you specifically request otherwise, yes, house sitting typically includes staying overnight in your home with your pets! I stay at your home for the full booking with the exception of a maximum of eight hours away over any given 24 hour period, and no more than four hours at a time. [Typically this takes the form of 2 to 2-1/2 hour "away" times, 2-4 times per day, any given day.] Typically, I send an update describing the pets' last 24 hours and including a handful of photos, every day of the booking, in the evening. I'm happy to send more updates when desired!

Availability

I'm currently taking a sabbatical from my chosen profession. My schedule of availability includes all times of day, on most days, and I greatly enjoy filling it with experiences with all kinds of pets. Most check-ins and walks occur between the hours of 8 AM and 9 PM, but I am able to accommodate whatever time/s of day are needed. I strive to keep the upcoming three months or more of my Rover calendar up-to-date, every day. I can often accept "last-minute" requests for drop-ins. I recommend reaching out at least a month in advance to secure dates for house sitting services, and further two-three months out for house sitting service dates that include a holiday. If my schedule indicates I'm booked up/unavailable for one or two days of your desired booking, I'm more than happy to work in tandem with another sitter who comes in on the day/s I'm not available! Although I'm happy to pencil you in as far out as you'd like, I formally confirm bookings 6 months out at maximum.
