Experienced Pet Sitter
Pet care experience
Hi! I’m a mostly remote medical librarian located in Hamilton Heights. Originally from Wisconsin, I moved to NYC in 2019 for graduate school. I’ve cared for pets ever since I was a child. I started at age 12 by caring for my family dog, Rosie (may she rest in peace ♥️). I took charge of a lot of her training, especially teaching her new tricks. In addition, I would frequently help care for friends’ and neighbors’ pets growing up, and once I started college, I worked at a large animal vet clinic during the school year, and a doggy daycare during the summers, where I cared for dogs of numerous breeds, sizes, ages, and temperaments. This cumulates in a wide and varied experience caring for different animals and breeds! Additionally, I have fostered a few dogs and cats before moving to NYC, including those with medical conditions. While I occasionally dog-sit for a couple of friends here, I find myself missing daily interaction with animals greatly (my current apartment does not allow pets). I am able to offer walks and potty breaks, as well as overnight stays. I love caring for animals and will do my best to keep your pet(s) happy and healthy while you're away. :)
Reviews
Katherine is truly exceptional in caring for my pet. Her genuine love and dedication to caring for my furry companion made my time away worry-free. With regular updates and a caring approach, she provides a level of service that exceeds expectations. I am grateful to have found such a reliable and compassionate caregiver for my furry friend. Highly recommended!
It’s always a scary thing trusting your pups with a complete stranger. That’s why I am so lucky to have found Katherine. She is communicative, professional, and caring. She follows all my instructions to a T when it comes to the care of my dogs Boo boo and Twinkle. She even puts up with my constant (and admittedly excessive lol) requests for status updates and photos of whenever I start to miss them. When twinkle had recently undergone surgery and was recovering she made sure to take extra care when walking her and let me know ho she was doing all throughout my trip. Book Katherine and you can travel knowing your babies are in safe and loving hands!

While I cannot house pets in my residence, I can stay overnight for as long as needed in your home to watch your pets. I am a very neat and respectful person—I believe in leaving a home just as nice as when I arrived, and I adhere to any instructions provided. When watching your pets, I always make sure to obtain emergency vet information, medical information, contact info, specific notes about the care or personality of your pet, and any house rules. If you have any questions or need clarification, feel free to contact me!
Information Katherine R. would like to know about your pet
In terms of what I’ll want to know about your pet for any service: vet information, any medical needs, how they are around other dogs (i.e. is it safe to let other dogs approach them on walks, can they go to dog parks/dog runs?), energy levels, feeding information, and any grooming needs for house stays. This information helps me keep your pet safe, happy, and healthy! Additionally, while I’m experienced with many different dog breeds and sizes and welcome them all, if you have a very large, strong dog (think Great Dane, Mastiff, Newfoundland size) that also tends to pull a lot on walks, I may not be the best fit! I’m a fairly petite woman, so I may not be able to control such a large dog if they forcefully pull and yank on walks. Very large dogs as mentioned above are totally fine with me if they’re good walkers though :) Feel free to ask questions if you’re unsure if your dog is a good fit! Finally, regarding medication: I have experience administering oral pills as well as ear and eye drops. While I’ve yet to need to administer injected medication, I can definitely do so as long as you demonstrate the process for me!
A typical day
My typical day when house sitting depends on the specific needs and routine of your pet—but I always make sure to get walks and play time in! And of course, plenty of affection and attention to your furry friend! We’ll have an open discussion of what you’re looking for in terms of care and routine for your pet so I can make sure I meet their needs. ?
Services
Katherine can watch in your home
Availability
I work remotely, excluding one day of the week (as of Sept and Oct, this will typically be Wednesdays) when I’m needed on-site. During this one on-site day per week, I usually work from 6:30am to 2:30pm, but I can adjust the start and end times easily. I work 8 hour days, but my work schedule is extremely flexible, as I can work or take breaks generally whenever I would like, as long as I get a certain number of hours in per week. Let me know what you’re looking for in terms of check-ins/walks/potty breaks and it’s very likely I’ll be able to accommodate them!
