Pet care experience
Hi there! I have had dogs of my own for the past 11 years, and worked in a boarding kennel for 3 years prior to getting my first dog. I am the type of person who points out every dog on the sidewalk to whoever is with me :) My dog is a 7-year-old Great Pyrenese mix named Sherman. He is sweet and gentle and gets along well with other dogs. I live with my husband Alec, and we both work from home full-time. This means that your dog will enjoy lots of attention during their stay! Care includes 2-3 walks per day (morning, lunch, and after dinner), plus potty breaks in our fenced-in yard as frequently as needed. I have plenty of experience in administering medications, as well. Your pup will feel right at home with us!
Reviews
Katelyn did an exceptional job of watching Jake, our American Black & Tan Coonhound, for two weeks this summer (2018), providing him with excellent care, frequent outings, and an enjoyable, loving home experience. When we came back to pick Jake, he was like a kid who didn't really want to leave summer camp and his new friends!
I can't put into so few words as are allowed here how great Katelyn is with dogs. For as long as I can remember, she wanted a dog. For various reasons, we never had a dog in our family growing up, much to Katelyn's disappointment. When she was out of the dorm in undergrad at Western Michigan University and moving into her first apartment, she got Maggie (Moo), the sweetest dog who ever lived. Katelyn had to really impress the rescue group she adopted Maggie from, as she was a young college student who had not actually owned a dog before (despite years of volunteering and working with dogs). The bond between the two of them was unmatched. Katelyn gave Maggie the home she always deserved. She and her husband later adopted Sherman, another rescue dog.
When Katelyn was a college student she volunteered her time walking dogs at a local shelter, within a short amount of time she completed an application to adopt a rescue dog. Initially her application looked like it was going to be turned down because she was still in college for another year and would be moving out of the area. Katelyn was able to convince them she would be a responsible owner and an amazing dog Mom and that is how Maggie entered her life. Maggie was three years old, an interesting mix of German Shorthaired Pointer, & Blue Heeler/Australian Shepherd. Katelyn took excellent care of her and she always had the most comfy beds, lots of toys, great food, and most importantly 100% unconditional love. Sherman, her second rescue dog became a member of the pack when she and her husband adopted him four years ago. Sherman arrived with Lyme disease, gastrointestinal issues, and thyroid disease. Through her patience and loving care he has a great life now and is happy to have such a great home. Katelyn is an excellent choice for Rover!
I’ve known Katelyn for a long time, and she’s great with dogs. I’ve seen her with my dog and her own dogs, and you can instantly tell that this person loves and respects animals and will take great care of your dog. If I come back as a dog, I totally hope Katelyn is my dog sitter :)

Information Katelyn D. would like to know about your pet
Please give me as much information about your dog that you can -- the more that I know, the better! This can include typical routines and habits, tolerances for play/exercise, feeding schedules, fears (e.g., thunder, fireworks), etc. I will not take dogs who cannot walk nicely on a leash. I am happy to use whatever mode of leash that works best for your dog (collar, prong, harness, etc.), but I will not take a dog who has not been trained to walk without pulling. Please understand that this is for my safety as well as your pet's. I prefer crate-trained dogs but do not require it, as I understand that some dogs are fearful or aggressive about crating. I will only crate your dog if you allow it, and only if I need to leave the house for a short period of time (1-2 hours max), or if they prefer to sleep in a crate.
A typical day
There are tons of great places to walk nearby! We frequent the river walk, Howard Park, the East Race, Sunnymede neighborhoods, downtown South Bend, and many more. Walks will be up to 45-60 minutes each, unless your pup requires a shorter duration for health reasons. We have a fenced-in yard that is perfect for a game of fetch, or just to snooze on the patio. There is no shortage of dog toys or beds here, but you are welcome to bring the comforts of home as well.
