Powley's Pooches is a home away from home

Pet care experience

My name is Kate and my pooch is Skye, a 1 year cockapoo. Skye is well socialised and friendly with other dogs. Animals of all shapes and sizes have always been in my life, but dogs have always held a special place in my heart. Owning my own dogs has given me many insights into the highs and lows that comes with it. I have experience with anxious and people/dog aggressive dogs. As a result I have a strong understanding of dog behaviour and reactivity and feel comfortable caring for such dogs. I also have experience with training basic commands, and other which are more just for show! I understand the importance of keeping your dog in their routine as much as possible and will endeavour to do just that in my home. There will be at least 2 walks a day. I live in an area where walking routes are endless. I only accept day care/boarding for one dog at a time so that my attention isn't compromised.

Kate was the perfect sitter for Chester. Kate was very relaxed, we exchanged lots of information prior to Chester staying. Kate welcomed Chester into her home and allowed us to stay until he was comfortable (which didn’t take long for him). Kate kept us updated during the day of how Chester was getting on and sent us photos and videos. Chester was happy the next morning after staying. Definitely helped us relax being kept updated and knowing Chester was being well cared for.

Kate and her partner clearly understand and love dogs and were flexible, welcoming and warm. Frodo settled straight away and was relaxed and happy at the end of the day. Highly recommended.

A typical day

A day in the life of a dog at Powley's Pooches - Wake up with cuddles and lots of love, and straight out in the garden for a morning tinkle. Breakfast (food and amount according to owner guidelines). Followed by a walk of at least 45min. Either individually, if required, or with any other dog I may have. I like to offer pooches that stay with me enrichment activities such as snuffle mats, home made forging boxes, licki mats and the like. These help with mental stimultion and encourage the release of feel good hormones. Any training that was prearranged would take place 2 to 3 times a day. Repetition is key! Dinner time. Evening walk of again at least 45mins, either with other dogs or on their own. Bit of playtime throughout the day as well as in the evening so pooches are nice and tired ready for an evening snuggled on the sofa and a good nights sleep.
