Animal Shelter Worker & Dog Mom!
Pet care experience
I work at my local Humane Society as an animal care staff member, and spend most of my day cleaning kennels, feeding dogs and cats, administering basic medications including pills and eye drops, providing walks and enrichment, and making each animal feel safe in an often scary and unfamiliar environment. I also volunteer with a national Animal Rescue Team in emergency shelters with dogs and cats, and previously volunteered as a Canine Companion at my local Humane Society. I'm able to walk dogs up to around 80lbs and up to two dogs at a time. I have a very flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays, and I am able to accommodate short notice bookings whenever possible. I am more than happy to customize your specific requests for care and how time is spent with your pet! My dogs are very different in what they want - two love to cuddle and the other loves to play - so it's definitely not a one size fits all. Just let me know your preferences, whether it's playtime, relaxed and cuddly, quiet and calm, or something else! I also know how stressful it can be for both you and your dog when they are left alone or with a stranger. I'll send frequent photos and updates and answer any questions you may have while spending time with them, so you can feel comfortable knowing they are safe and happy!
Reviews
Thanks Kate! Kate cares about the dogs so much. She is thorough and communicative. I did not have to worry at all, knowing that Kate was taking the dog out. She was great all around!
I had the great pleasure of working with Kate as an Animal Rescue Volunteer through HSUS. She was one of the most hard working, compassionate and respectful people I’ve ever met. She cared for each and every animal as if they were her own and would not settle for less from the rest of us. Even now, several years later, she remembers names and details about them. Anyone would be lucky to get Kate as a dog sitter. She would be an incredible asset to Rover.com.

Communication
Skills
Safety, trust & environment
I understand the importance of maintaining a safe environment for each pet, and that dogs can feel anxious or territorial about a stranger entering their home. I would discuss the best way to approach each new dog and drop-in request to make it as easy and stress-free as possible, including discussing each dog's habits, needs, "safe spaces" in the home, and what types of interactions they are most comfortable with.
Information Kate P. would like to know about your pet
Let me know if they have any particular behaviors/habits! For example, if they have a favorite toy, if a certain noise makes them anxious, if they are sensitive to sudden movements, or if they don't like something. Do they like belly scratches? Do they have a place in the house they feel most safe? Anywhere they aren't allowed to go? Can they be on the furniture? Also please let me know if there are any medical issues I need to be aware of (for example, do they have arthritis/joint pains or sensitivity, poor vision, etc.) and how they typically do on walks (reactive to other dogs/people/squirrels, excitable, calm, do they like to walk quickly or stop often to sniff around).
A typical day
I treat every dog the way I would want my own dogs to be treated and cared for - their health, happiness, and safety is my priority! Let me know what they like to do best! Playtime with toys, hide and seek, any favorite spots for walks in your neighborhood, or if you're working on any training that we can practice!
