Fun in a safe and loving home

Pet care experience

Two Comfy Homes: My partner and I own a large dog-friendly house in mid-Cambridge. We have a very secure fenced-in back yard/patio, although that space does not substitute for walks. It's a great spot for a quick pee, or a longer nap in the sun though. Our house is filled with dog beds and comfy furniture (if you allow your dog on the furniture). There are many rooms in the house, but the dogs tend to gravitate to the human-occupied area(s). The neighborhood is dog-friendly and there is a doggy gathering place at the main library. We walk the dogs in lots of interesting places from here, and on weekends we usually go to the Blue Hills or the Fells for long hikes. We also have a house on the Cape and we often spend weekends there. That's a doggy paradise with walks on the beaches and in the woods, along with a huge fenced-in area at home. About this sitter: ABOUT ME: I know and love dogs! I am retired, and spend much of every day in the company of canine companions. I have two dogs of my own, and I sometimes have a foster dog in the house too. My dogs are very calm and accepting of new dogs in the house. I have fostered more than 150 dogs and one of my dogs has been around for at least a hundred of them! I am a long-time president of a local dog rescue group and I have been working on issues of dog homelessness since 1999. The main thing I've learned in all my interactions with dogs is that each dog is unique, with his or her own personal quirks, skills, voice, and habits. I am curious about each new dog and my goal is make sure your dog will be comfortable and happy while s/he is away from home with me.

Kate has been such a great host to Bagel! She always gets so much attention and has a blast when she stays there!

Kate hosted Bagel while we were off getting married and traveling briefly after... and I couldn't have been happier with how Bagel spent her own "vacation"! Kate kept me updated with frequent photos and stories about her activities, and I could tell that she was extremely comfortable there. Kate is a real dog-lover in a way I don't always see in others.

Our dog stayed 10 days with Kate this holiday season. From start to finish, working with Kate was a pleasure and left us feeling so comfortable with leaving. We had never used anyone outside family to sit our dog before, so needless to say we were nervous initially. But after the meet and greet we knew our little guy was in the best possible care. Kate's knowledge of dogs and comfort around them is evident the second you meet her. Her and her home are inviting and very dog friendly. Kate was understanding of my nervousness and sent me updates with photos while we were away. I think maybe our dog had a better vacation that we did! He was playing with other dog friends, taking long walks, and napping on the sofa and in the sunlight coming through the windows. Kate was even able to treat his dry nose (which he hates having done) for us during cold winter days. It was so fantastic to be able to relax knowing that our dog was not only safe, but happy too. We were thinking he wouldn't want to come home with us after such a great stay with Kate! We will ABSOLUTELY ask Kate to take our guy again!

Aspen had a fantastic time with Kate! She looked behind her at her new friends when I picked her up. Kate gave great and detailed updates throughout the visit including pictures so I could see all the fun my puppy was having. She's went hiking, to the dog park, got cuddles.....made for a very happy girl. Aspen will be going back to Kate's soon for more adventures.

About my yard There is a lovely U-shaped back yard, mostly bricked-in, with some dirt areas. The fences are 8 feet tall, and it is very secure for even the smallest dog. We have outdoor furniture on the patio and I sometimes sit outside with the dogs while they fetch, or nap in the sun.

A typical day

Here's where we'll take our walks My house is in mid-Cambridge, near the library (a popular dog walking area). We walk all over Cambridge from the house, and we also drive to Fresh Pond to walk around the Pond. On weekends we go to the Fells or the Blue Hils for longer hikes. If your dog has good recall, we would let him/her go off leash if you wanted. Your dog's sleeping arrangement Wherever s/he likes. There's a king-size human bed and assorted dog beds in the bedroom. If your dog prefers sleeping in his/her crate or in a chair, it's their choice. Time I'll spend with your dog I'm home all day and the dogs hang out with me in my study, or in the kitchen. I might go out to the gym and/or grocery shopping, but they are not alone more than a few hours.

Why I love dog sitting I have had dogs at various times during my adult life, and continuously for the last twenty years. I always have at least two dogs. I have been fostering dogs since 1999 and have welcomed more than 150 dogs into my home while helping them get adopted.
