Professional Animal Care
Pet care experience
Serving the Albuquerque and Taos areas. As a pet-sitter I am especially well suited in caring for animals with medical needs. Animals with special needs do not intimidate me, even the grumpy ones. I can deliver a pill down your pet's throat before they know what happened, give injections, monitor vitals, hand-feed, and maintain communication with their veterinarian if necessary. My experience in animal care began in Kansas City, Missouri, where I attended an agribusiness magnet high school. An active member of the FFA for many years, I grew up raising and showing sheep and steers. I received a summer internship at MU's veterinary school in 1995 at the age of sixteen, and soon after a job working with a veterinarian in Kansas City. My first job was an apprenticeship where I learned everything a vet tech does hands-on, as well as how to groom dogs and cats. Unfortunately, at this young age I also learned a very disturbing thing about veterinary medicine, that many animals are euthanized unnecessarily for behavioral problems. I use my natural bent for animal empathy to learn calm and kind ways to train animals so they can do what they want more than anything - please their masters. I continued to work in veterinary clinics for about ten years, then spent several years as a professional groomer. As a dog walker I will naturally (for my own sanity) teach your dog how to be a champion well-behaved leash walker. If your dog is already a champ, great! If your guy or gal has special needs, I've got your back. Only three legs? No problem. Need me to walk multiple dogs at once? My pleasure. I also adore cats, large animals and exotic pets.
Reviews
Our 3 young cats and geriatric dog were all noticeably calm and content when we returned after 10 days. Karyn’s a genuine “pet whisperer” who speaks the unspoken language of animals. It was such a gift to be able to fully engage in our vacation without worry about our animals. Thank you Karyn!
Very dissatisfied with how she treated my dog during a drop in visit. At no point during or after did she communicate that she was having a hard time with him. I left detailed instructions on how to handle his behavior and she did not follow them. When I confronted her with my concern, she was defensive and twisted the truth, but I have the entire interaction on camera. Would have been nice to get a simple apology, especially because she lost my dog’s favorite ball, but she couldn’t even do that. Instead she just sent laughing emojis. Very unprofessional.
You’re awesome
Karyn did a great job caring for our dog and cat. She was responsive, friendly, and caring. Would hire her again.

I am currently an online graduate student and animal care is my only job. I can maintain the same presence with your pets as someone who works from home. Having me for a pet sitter is a staycation for your fur babies while you are away.
