Veterinary Assistant Gone Rover!
Pet care experience
Anyone who has ever met me knows I’ve loved animals my whole life. Ever since I could speak, I always said: “I want to take care of animals!” I made that dream come true. I joined DCTC’s veterinary technician program, and started working as a veterinary technician at a large hospital. There, I assisted the doctor with surgeries, monitored anesthesia, or took simple exams and administered vaccines. Now, I work at a small clinic assisting the doctor with appointments, obtaining lab samples, providing education to clients, and much more. So, how does this all translate to caring for your pet? If your pet needs medications, I can administer any kind efficiently, carefully, and professionally. If your pet is special-needs or has a chronic illness, I’m familiar with the care your pet requires. I can administer insulin, give fluids, monitor glucose with a glucometer (must be provided by you, the client), and so much more. I can notice little things about your pet and let you know if it’s something you need to keep an eye on, or let you know if it’s something special about your pet!
Reviews
Karla did great with our kitties! She gave incredible updates and took amazing pics! Thanks Karla!
Karla is so caring! She will always take her time with the animals to make them feel comfortable. She also is trained to give medications. She has been able to give insulin injections and oral medications as prescribed by a veterinarian. If you are looking for a kind and companionate caregiver for you pet I would recommend Karla over and over.

Safety, trust & environment
If I’m dropping in throughout the day or coming to walk your dog, I’ll only do exactly as you ask. I will not touch or explore any other parts of your home that are not required to accomplish my tasks. Your pet will be greeted and petted for a few minutes before going on a walk. Some playtime and petting will happen after potty breaks outside. If I’m staying at your home, I will only touch/use what you allow me to. I will bring sleeping accommodations for myself (air mattress, or sleeping on the couch). I will never enter a personal bedroom. Please provide a detailed list of your pet’s daily routine! I want their day to be as close to normal as possible, since being cared for by someone outside of the family can be scary, or at least weird, for them. I can provide as many or as few pictures as you request! Going on vacation and don’t want to be bothered? I’ll only text you if you text me first (or in emergencies). Want to see every adventure we go on? I’ll send you pictures every time your pet does something cute (so, all the time), and may even make a collage.
Information Karla S. would like to know about your pet
Please provide a detailed idea of what daily life looks like for your pet. When do they get up for the day? Breakfast? Meds? Potty? Playtime? Treat time? Do you have a super specific route for your walks? I wanna know every last detail! I’d also like to know where your pet likes and doesn’t like to be touched. Are they a cuddler? What are their favorite and least favorite games? I want to become your pet’s best friend, so I’d ideally like to know what to expect in terms of behavior, like whether they’re shy or short tempered.
A typical day
While I think it’s best to stick to the typical routine, if your dog is adventurous, I know so many great places to explore! I also know a couple of fenced-in areas (that aren’t dog parks) where your pup can run and play!

Availability
I do work full time at a veterinary clinic, so my hours are limited during the day during the week. If you are planning a week-long trip far enough in advance, I can take that week off work and stay at your home with your pet; provided that I am compensated for at least what my regular job would have paid me that week. I will always try to find a way to work with you!
