Pet care experience
I grew up with dogs in the middle of the Midwest (South Dakota) and have always loved animals. I've been pet sitting in DC for over 10 years (and sat for several families in South Dakota before moving to DC) for a variety of breeds and in a variety of living situations - apartments, condos, single-family homes, etc. and have enjoyed getting to know my furry friends and their families. While I have more experience with small to medium size dogs, I grew up around larger dogs and am very comfortable with them. I'm happy to either collars or harnesses for walks depending on your preference and your pet's training. I'm also attentive to any training needs and/or behavioral tactics that you implement to keep things consistent for your pet. My philosophy for house sitting is to ensure as little disruption for your pet(s) as possible. I believe that it's not only my job to care for your pet(s) but also care for your home - I make sure to water plants (on your preferred schedule), take in mail/papers, and leave your home as clean and orderly as I found it.

Kari is a wonderful pet / house sitter. We recently moved from the area and miss her covering my routine travels. My dog, a little nervous when her routine is disrupted, did o.k. in boarding, but I could tell she was MUCH more relaxed, happy in her own home with Kari. Also appreciated Kari's dependable and caring approach - made it easier for me to be away from home with less dog parent guilt!

I am open to all breeds, but I do like to know if the owner has any behaviorial concerns that I need to be aware of or look out for. Also, if the owners are in the process of training, it's good to know the methods they are using so that I can mimic those for continuity.
A typical day
Aside from sniffing out the best dog parks to meet new friends, I'm always down for a game of catch or tug-o-war with your furry friend. Once we are home, your pet can expect to be played with, scratched, snuggled, brushed, and talked to. Pets get smarter the more you include them in the conversation. :)
