Retired dog lover
Pet care experience
I have had dogs all my life, but recently had to put down my beagle quite suddenly (cancer). I am trying to figure out when and what type of dog to get next, but, for now, dog sitting is filling the gap and helping me sort all this out. I miss walking my dog and would love to walk yours. There is a lovely park at the end of the street and a nice walk to get there along the lake, where other dogs walk often (on leashes). I have been watching the neighbor's dogs for over a decade, in addition to caring for my own. I am retired (early, still very active!) and, when not traveling/away from home, I am quite flexible in terms of schedules and habits, etc. If I am in town, I am around the house or able to take dogs (if appropriate/permissible) most places we go (state/metro/local parks, boating, etc.). I have had experience with medium and larger dogs, although medium works better in our house, but we did have a Golden for years, so it's all good. Not really used to tiny dogs, but if they have "bit dog attitude", I can probably swing it. Older dogs are fine, and dogs that need medications or other types of care are also probably fine. Puppies might be more than I am ready to take on.

I do not have a fenced yard and live on a lake, so only certain types of dogs would do well here. That said, I've had two beagles over the years, and they tended to need a lot of monitoring/leashing, etc., so I am certainly able to keep dogs close to the house if/when need be. I am happy to have dogs on the furniture, in the bed, in the car, on the boat, and so on. Basically, they are guests just like people, as far as I'm concerned.

Information Karen S. would like to know about your pet
How does your dog get along with other dogs? Is your dog a "shadow" or an escape artist? How does your dog do on a leash, both alone and when other dogs appear on the scene? Does your dog have any special needs, either in terms of medications or physical care? What are your dogs habits for sleep and activity? Any food limitations? How much food and on what schedule? How long can your dog be left alone? Does your dog do OK in a crate or do you have some other arrangement for when you leave home? Who is your veterinarian? All shots up to date? Is your dog OK on the water; does your dog know how to swim?
A typical day
I really miss walking our dog, so walks to the park would definitely be in order. I also go on "adventure days" to various state parks during the week, and I particularly like to do that in the Fall. Boating is also an option, if that's something your dog likes to do. If your dog is more of a homebody, I am happy to hang out at the house, but as a retiree, my schedule is flexible and can do whatever makes your pup happy.

I am retired, so when in town, I am usually around the house and quite flexible. I do go boating a lot (in nice weather), so dogs that like the water would do best here. My home is on a lake, and I have dogs around the neighborhood (who get along with other dogs), so dogs that get along with other dogs would do best (but I can certainly keep them apart, if need be). I do not have a fenced yard, but there is some distance to the road (not a major road, people walk dogs up there all the time). There is a park at the end of the street and plenty of places for dog walking. I have always walked our dogs (when I have dogs, but not currently) twice a day (at least) so they don't poop in the yard (and so they get exercise). I do not have children, but there are kids next door who are crazy for dogs (and have their own). It's a very doggy neighborhood, so I pretty much know all of them (even if I can't remember their owner's names).
