Pet-Lover Turned to Pet Sitter

Pet care experience

As long as I can remember, I've always loved caring for dogs. At a young age, I was given several responsibilities for taking care of my family's pet dog, and as I got older, I gradually assumed more responsibility until I was the sole carer. That, however, was not enough for me, so I began volunteering at my local Humane Society. I've walked and cared for every type of dog, from a chihuahua to a Great Daine, and I would love to bring that experience to bear when caring for your dog. I specialize in dogs that require more attention and affection than your average dog. These dogs are mostly rescued dogs that have experienced neglect and are paranoid that it will happen again. I have also worked with dogs that have separation anxiety and dogs that have degenerative conditions in the brain. Although this is my specialty, I also have experience with perfectly healthy dogs. I look forward to working with you!

Kara LOVES dogs. She has grown up with dogs and volunteered at animal shelters. She has taken care of large dogs (70 pounds) and small ones (20 pounds). She is kind, patient and dependable. Dogs seen to sense her kindness and respond very well to her! Do you want a person caring your dog who is just in it for the money or who really cares? Kara will love your dogs as if they are her own.

Information Kara H. would like to know about your pet

There are a couple of things I like to know before sitting a dog, if at all possible. Firstly, I would like to know the size. I don't have any breed preferences, but sometimes very large dogs are difficult to control on walks, so I like to know the size beforehand. Secondly, I would like to know the dog's energy level. Does your full-grown retriever have the energy of a puppy on steroids? Is your puppy less active than normal for their breed? Knowing these answers helps me see what activities your dog would enjoy so they can have the best experience possible.

A typical day

I am a big believer in walking dogs in parks specifically because they have more freedom to explore than when they are simply walked down a street and expected to do their business. Additionally, when I do an overnight stay with a dog I dedicate several hours to playing with them. I do this because a lot of dogs get nervous or experience separation anxiety when their owner leaves for an extended period; I've found that the best way to calm them down in many cases is to give them an outlet for their stress through playing.
