A family to love your pups

Pet care experience

I've been caring for my dogs and helping with family and friends dogs for most of my life. My children are older (16 & 18) and are happy to cuddle and love dogs that visit. When dogs sleep over they get to sleep however they're most comfortable, including in one of the beds. We believe our pets are our babies and need just as much love. We don't relegate our babies to the floor only so we don't do that to visiting pets either. We'd be happy to have your pets join the family for a while. My dog is good with other pups but afraid of strange humans. Unfortunately he will bark the whole time you are here but he will stop once the strange humans leave. If your dog is more anxious about loud noises in new places please let us know and I can arrange for my dog to be on a walk when you arrive. MEET AND GREETS: My dog Cinna gets along with other dogs but he will bark at strange humans in his home. Because of this we Don't include him in meet and greets as he will be more interested in barking at you than meeting your dog. It can create a negative first exposure if your dog understandably takes offense at the barking. We are working with him and hope to be able to offer meet and greets in the future. PUPPIES: New puppy parents are understandably often the most anxious owners. We do our best to respond to messages in a timely manner but cannot guarantee immediate responses since sometimes we are playing with the dogs and other times we are living the rest of our lives. Please be patient with us and know that your pup is loved and maybe getting cuddles or play at that moment. We do allow other pups to offer basic corrections, like a growl or bark to prevent toy theft, because learning boundaries is an important part of socialization. We do not allow physical corrections like biting and supervise closely to redirect a puppy who isn't listening to another dogs boundaries. We do not leave them unsupervised with other pups to ensure that nothing escalates. We are also willing to work with them on a command or two they are learning. We require dogs to be kennel trained but that does not mean they will be crated during their stay unless it becomes necessary. Necessary reasons include for their safety, such as if I cannot supervise during an appointment and your dog can get past the dog gate that would allow them to have the whole room. It also includes dogs who have accidents/mark frequently or dogs who are destructive. You are responsible for replacement/repair of property within reason. I don't charge for toys or a dog bed but will charge for couch cushions for example. Please consider your dogs habits in new places prior to sending them to stay with us as we will charge replacement cost of destroyed items. If you are aware your has an issue with marking or chewing please communicate with us. Being transparent about your dogs issues will provide for the best stay for your dog and limit surprise fees. We are unable to accept dogs who bark frequently since we live in a townhome and it will disturb the neighbors. If you are unsure of how your pet will respond in a new environment please notify me of this in your initial request so we can discuss options. This can include a test daycare stay for a few hours prior to your trip or a test overnight prior to a longer trip. I work remotely so I'm home to supervise and cuddle while I work. This gives your pup less time alone but they do need to be able to be minimally supervised or quietly crated during infrequent meetings. We keep dogs away from the door if anyone is coming in or out, so we request anyone coming for a drop off or pickup give us a heads up before they come to the door so we can make sure the dogs are secure. Pickups and drop offs are from 8am to 10pm, though there may be times in that window where I'm unavailable for meetings or appointments and will work with you to find a time that works. If you need a drop off or pickup slightly outside of those times we can discuss it.

Kandace was amazing with my anxious senior pup. She welcomed him with open arms and kept me posted and sent me pics throughout his stay. She was also flexible and very understanding when my flight got canceled multiple times and I was stuck in another country for 2 extra days. Would definitely have my pup board with her again.

Great communication and Frankie was happy when I picked him up but not frantic to leave. Always a good sign!

Safety, trust & environment

We have a small fenced back yard, dog gates at the stairs to limit potential issues from being on a separate floor and to allow our cat to have a space of his own away from overly eager dogs. We recommend bringing a crate and bed/blanket so your pup has a space of their own, esp if they're anxious in new places. This does not mean they're going to be closed in their crate, often we've had stays where the door was never closed, but many dogs like having the option to retreat into their own space if they're overwhelmed.

Information Kandace W. would like to know about your pet

I'd love to know more about your dog's personality. What do they love? Do they want cuddles or do they prefer pets so they don't feel confined? What upsets them? How do they feel about strangers? Anything and everything you want to share is welcome information! It's also important to provide information on their history with cats. We cannot take dogs who have a history of aggression with any animals.

A typical day

I work from home and often work on the living room so dogs can play or nap nearby while I work. They're able to go outside frequently and as often as they request. Dogs are Rarely left alone in the house since there's always someone home. Since I work during the day there is supervision and attention but it can be limited during meetings. During infrequent meetings dogs will be free or crated based on their ability to handle limited supervision safely. Puppies require more attention so we only have one puppy at a time and they must be crated during meetings for their safety and to limit preventable damage.
