I am a full-time dog sitter, so I spend all day every day with the dogs in my care. I am a firm believer that all dogs need to off-leash time to be fully fulfilled. So between my house in Lakeland, The Outback at Shelby Farms (one of the top-rated dog parks in the country), and Overton Park, I make that happen every day, rain or shine. I have seatbelts and harnesses, water for the dogs, and a first aid kit in the truck.

Safety, trust & environment
Since we love adventures, it’s important that your dog has good recall. I have a GPS tracker for each guest for added safety. We consider the dogs in our care part of the family, so unless otherwise instructed we let the dogs choose where they sleep (spoiler alert - we have a king size bed for a reason!) I have a crate for each dog in the event it is needed, but it’s rare that I crate a dog. I feed each dog separately, and I use stainless steel food and water bowls that I run through the dishwasher every night. I also have an automatic waterer outside and inside so the dogs have access to fresh water at all times. Matt’s job allows him to work remotely, so there is always someone home. Boarding: We consider the dogs that stay with us part of the family. Dogs are welcome on the couches and beds here, and I have an assortment of dog bed options in each room.

Information Julie M. would like to know about your pet
Our house revolves around dogs - we have three of our own and we also foster. Our house is busy - we play hard (but always supervised) and we don’t mind getting dirty. Sometimes it’s loud and sometimes it’s rowdy. Our daily hustle and bustle could be overwhelming to a nervous nelly or a shy-guy senior, but we have a lot of fun and I love watching the timid ones come out of their shells - romps in the woods have the obvious physical benefits, but they help a dog build their confidence, too. I have had pups come here that were too nervous to walk up the front steps but after a few days (if that!) they were leaping over logs and climbing hills and swimming. BOARDING - I require a copy of vaccination records for every dog and cat that comes to my house (boarding and day care). - Your pet needs to be current on their flea/tick medication as we spend a lot of time in the woods. -Please have a collar on your dog that has a current rabies tag and a tag with your contact information. -Please inform me of any dietary restrictions - I keep an assortment of antlers and raw bones to chew on, and I like to keep a pocket full of treats. So I need to know if there is something you don't want your pup to have. - Please pre-measure and pack each meal in separate labeled ziploc bags. This ensures you pack enough food for the stay. - Please label any food, treats, supplements, or medications with the name, dosage, and time of day it's given. - You do not need to send bowls; I have plenty of stainless bowls that I run through the dishwasher’s sanitize cycle. -I have plenty of beds, crates, toys, etc, so you don’t need to pack anything else unless you just want to send something familiar from home.
A typical day
Exercise is what we love the most. I welcome high energy pups here, and most of my regulars are young and social and love to play. We do a lot of outdoor exploring and playing. I do tracking games, utilize scatter feeding and puzzle feeders for many meals, and regularly play tug/keep away/search. I do leashed sniff-walks for seniors (I have one) and younger dogs that might not necessarily be ready for off-leash time yet. DROP-IN VISITS: I often have helping hands with me - my daughters help at home and sometimes they come along for walks and drop-ins. They are 10 and 12; they are gentle and they know to let pets come to them. They are professional cuddlers. On the other hand, we completely understand and respect that every pet and every household is different, so if you aren’t comfortable with me having tag-alongs on home visits or walks, just let me know. When I do drop-in visits, I don’t like to rush in and rush out. We will play or cuddle or whatever it is I am there to do, and when I can I will often I spend extra time going over my calendar, etc just so your pet isn’t alone. Especially when it comes to shy cats - they almost always eventually come out and investigate if I stick around and quietly update my planner or draw etc.

Wooded trails and creeks to swim in
Pet care experience
I have a certification in Cat and Dog First Aid from the American Red Cross. I have over 25 years of experience with dogs, cats, horses, chickens, goats, cows, sheep, rabbits, reptiles, rodents, pigs, and fish! I have rescued and fostered dogs (and cats, and horses, and even one chicken that we named Pumpkin and let sleep in the house!) so I have experience with a wide variety of species, ages and personalities. I recently moved to the Crosstown area, so for anyone visiting Memphis, I am less than 10 minutes from Beale Street and 15 minutes from Graceland. We just had a new fence built and we have a dog waste cleaning service that comes three times a week. I also have a property in Lakeland with a couple hundred wooded acres with creeks to play in, swimming holes, hills to run, trails to track, squirrels to chase….muddy paws are no big deal at my house! When we visit there we have a pool for when it’s hot, tons of toys, and a small little creek that runs through the yard for playing in.
Reviews

Julie is truly one of a kind! My puppy, Coby, goes to her home for daycare every day, and I couldn’t imagine trusting anyone else with him. She provides the utmost care and treats him as if he were her own. It’s so clear how much love and attention she gives to every dog she watches. Julie and I both share a passion for rescuing dogs, and that compassion shines through in everything she does. Coby adores her and is always so excited to see her each morning—which gives me so much peace of mind. I can’t say enough good things about Julie—she’s dependable, trustworthy, and has the biggest heart for animals. If you’re looking for someone who will love and care for your dog like family, Julie is the one!
Great communicator! I appreciated the videos of my cat and the joyful spirit Julie brings to caring for my cat while I was away.

Julie was able to take in Lucy with short notice and sent regular updates with photos and videos. It was clear that she had plenty of cuddles and playtime and really enjoyed herself.

Julie was super caring and kept my dog active and happy.
